With 30 years of experience in the banking & finance industry to her name, Ms. Bailey has worked as a Director at Credit Suisse AG in Zurich (together with its affiliates "CS") since March 2011. Ms. Bailey was recruited by CS to create a robust legal and compliance infrastructure for an innovative and high risk area of CS which provided investment banking products and services to the ultra high net worth clients of the CS private bank (a highly protected sector in the financial services industry). She did this successfully from a blank sheet of paper and requiring her to rally support in the senior management ranks of CS. More recently Ms. Bailey served as functional head and subject matter expert for a team in CS Wroclaw which inter alia provides marketing material review and cross-border coordination globally for CS. Previously, Ms. Bailey was recruited by Ogier Guernsey where she served as senior associate of the banking and corporate law group and Guernsey counsel to the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) from 2008 to 2011, as associate for the corporate law group at Carey Olsen-Guernsey (a firm specializing in investment funds) from 2004 to 2008, as associate of the Capital Markets, Derivatives Group at Allen & Overy from 2001 to 2004 and trainee solicitor for film finance, banking, and corporate finance for Richard Butler International Law Firm from 1999 to 2001. Prior to her legal training, Ms. Bailey worked at the Prudential Assurance Company (UK) from 1991 to 1994, within her first year rising to the top female salesperson in the firm, then served as a consultant for senior management. Prior to moving to the UK in 1991, Ms. Bailey was a junior investment banker for Prudential Bache Securities (NYC) from 1987 to 1990, and summer associate for Merrill Lynch (NYC) in 1987 in capital markets, M&A and strategic planning.
Ms. Bailey qualified as a UK lawyer (solicitor England and Wales) in 2001, studying law (1994-1997) at Kings College University of London, the legal practice course at College of Law in London (1998) and concluding Articles (1999-2001) at Richards Butler International Law Firm in London. Before entering the fields of law, Ms. Bailey obtained a Bachelor of Arts at Lewis & Clark College, Portland, Oregon in 1981. She continued her studies at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, receiving a Master of Public Administration in 1988.
Ms. Bailey has contributed to numerous institutions amongst her academic and professional circles. Elected to student government at the John F. Kennedy School of Government (1985 to 1986) Ms. Bailey served as co-treasurer and social chairman. She was also appointed to the Graduate & Professional Schools Counsel at Harvard. During her legal training, Ms. Bailey was elected to two roles with the Law Student Society at Kings College University of London, serving as treasurer from 1995 to 1996 and as president from 1996 to 1997 where she raised an unprecedented amount of funds for the Law Student Society. During her Articles, Ms. Bailey was elected by her peers to be trainee solicitor representative in the Richards Butler governance committee and was also chairman for the London Goodenough Trust Running Club helping facilitate 12 and 15 runners complete the London Marathon in 1999 and 2000 respectively.
In addition to her career endeavors, Ms. Bailey remains affiliated with various professional organizations. From 1988 to 1991, she was involved with the Harvard Club of New York, followed by the Harvard Club of London from 1994 to 2004. She was affiliated with the Guernsey International Legal Association from 2006 to 2011 appointed to the GILA Committee in 2008. Ms. Bailey has been associated with the Harvard Club of Switzerland since 2015, and was elected to their executive board in 2017 where she is advocating social responsibility.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Bailey (nee Badillo) accrued numerous accolades and honors throughout her impressive academic pursuits. Previously recognized by Who's Who amongst American High School Students in 1997, she received honors in high school inter alia Honor Society membership (3 years), Girls State, a Lion's Club scholarship as well as a good citizenship award from the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also offered numerous academic scholarships for graduate school, which she turned down in order to attend Harvard University.
Ms. Bailey's extracurricular activities during academia included serving as junior high, high school and college cheerleader, high school gymnastics team, award-winning yearbook, church youth group president, school and church choir and volunteer work. More recently she enjoys running, sailing, writing (professional, motivational and fiction), organizing events for charity, schools and professional affiliations, parenting and films.
Ms. Bailey came from extremely humble roots. She self financed and self motivated herself throughout her academic pursuits and professional career. In her formative years her role model was her cousin Herman Badillo (deceased 2014), who she researched in school encyclopedias and only met after she went to Harvard. Outside of her professional life, Ms Bailey is a proud single mother and sole provider for her daughter. Looking towards the future, she aims to continue building her legacy in her professional life while cementing her status as a leader who makes a significant difference in improving the lives of others through professional affiliations and published works.
