Board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology oncology, Dr. Siegel has since retired from practicing medicine in 2015 after contributing close to 50 years to the field. The former director of the Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disease at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, deputy physician-in-chief, and chief of the division of hematology-oncology, Dr. Siegel was a pediatric hematologist-oncologist who dedicated his time to caring for children of all ages, from infant through young adult, with every type of cancer and blood disease. Providing therapy and various other forms of treatment, he entered the field during a time when the success rate of children beating these diseases was between 10 and 20 percent. In more recent years, he has been able to witness survival rates of about 80 percent thanks to research and medicine.

Dr. Siegel also spent several years recently as the founding co-medical director of the adolescent and young adult oncology program at the Norris Cancer Center of the University of Southern California School of Medicine from 2013 to 2015. The founding director of the Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disease at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles from 1996 to 2013, he also served as professor and head of the division of hematology-oncology department of pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California for nearly 35 years.

Well-known as a leader in supportive care and research in pediatric oncology, with a special focus on leukemia, neuroblastoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Dr. Siegel is a compassionate person who gave his all to treating ill children and teaching the next generation of doctors. Still remaining very active in a number of non-profit organizations close to his heart, he currently serves as Chair of the boards of CureSearch for childhood cancer, and the HealthCare Foundation of Ventura County, as well as a member of the boards of Ronald McDonald House Charities (Global) and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California. He formerly served on the board of directors of the National Leukemia Broadcast Council, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

An elected fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and longtime member of the American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Medical Association, Dr. Siegel recently began serving as an associate editor of the Chinese medical journal Pediatric Investigation in 2017.

Recognized for his work by being named to the National Caring Hall of Fame in 2001, Dr. Siegel was recently selected for the Critical Mass Archie Bleyer MD Trailblazer Award in 2016. The second person to receive this award, which was established in 2014, it honors pioneers and innovators in the field of adolescent and young adult oncology. He has also been highlighted in dozens of editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in the World.

Born in New Jersey, Mr. Siegel studied at Boston University, where he completed both his undergraduate degree and MD. He then interned and completed his residency work at the University of Minnesota Hospital between 1967 and 1969 before serving as a clinical associate for the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, from 1969 to 1972. Married to his wife Barbara Frankel since 2005, Dr. Siegel has one son from a previous marriage.
