Dr. Burstein is a neurosurgeon, senior partner and attending physician at Neurological Surgery, P.C. in Nassau County, NY. Board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, he is the former chief of neurosurgery at South Nassau Communities Hospital and Franklin General Hospital. Besides his activities in neurosurgery, he maintains a special interest and extensive experience in the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of brain and spine, second opinions, and independent insurance examinations.
In addition to practicing in the field, Dr. Burstein has taught many postgraduate courses at various institutions and has written extensively on his studies in various peer reviewed journals throughout his career. An elected fellow of the American College of Surgeons, past member and board of directors of the Long Island Hearing and Speech Society, member, past president and former executive director of the New York State Neurosurgical Society, and member of several fraternities, he also served on the board of directors of the South Nassau Community Hospital for many years, beginning in 1978.
A graduate of the University of Michigan where he received a BA with distinction in 1954, and State University of New York with an MD in 1958, Dr. Burstein went on to complete his surgical internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1958 to 1959, and fellowship in neurological surgery at the Mayo Clinic Foundation in Rochester, MN, from 1961 to 1965. He earned an MS in neurosurgery in 1965 from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Burstein received a Neurosurgery Travel Award granted by the Mayo Foundation in 1966. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps in the United States and overseas and as a battalion surgeon in the third and fifth Marine divisions. In addition to receiving several honors and awards for his work in medicine, he has been included in dozens of editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World. Married to Ronnie Sue Deutsch since 1972, Dr. Burstein has one daughter.
