Beginning her career as a student of the California State Polytechnic University in 1976, Ms. Morgan graduated with a BS in Aerospace Engineering. From 1980 to 1994, Ms. Morgan was employed as an engineer on the Space Shuttle Program at Rockwell International's Space Division, working in the Guidance, Navigation, and Control area on the Liquid Booster Module concept design as a supplemental propulsive device on the Space Shuttle Orbiter's External Tank. She was promoted to the position of Lead Engineer of the Space Shuttle Orbiter/External Tank Separation group in 1986. As a Senior Programming Specialist, Ms. Morgan was promoted to Team Leader of all Space Orbiter Separation areas (Orbiter/Launch Pad Separation, Orbiter/Solid Rocket Booster Separation and Orbiter/External Tank Separation) in 1992. During that time, she performed analyses using high fidelity 6 Degree-of- Freedom computer programs, implementing complex aerodynamic environments for intact and abort flight modes. She also developed simulation models to facilitate detachment of fuel tanks and payloads for several conceptual vehicles. From 1994 to 1995, Ms. Morgan was employed as a loads analyst for the Kenetech Wind Power Corporation designing 33 and 45-meter rotor wind turbines. In 1995, she accepted a position with Madentech Engineering as a Command & Data Subsystem test engineer, contracted to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
In 1997, Ms. Morgan was hired by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a System Fault Protection engineer on the Cassini Spacecraft for Spacecraft Operations. Synonymously, Ms. Morgan supported the Kepler Telescope Project as a Fault Protection & probability Risk Assessment Analyst in 2005, supported the Deep Impact Extended Mission as a Fault Protection Lead Engineer in 2007, joined the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Anomaly Investigation Team in 2008, and supported the Constellation Program as a member of the Software Intensive System Group in 2009. She was also a Review Board Member on the Stardust Project, and provided support to the CloudSat Fault Protection team. In 2009, Ms. Morgan assumed the role of Team Leader for the Command & Data Subsystem group, and was elevated to the position of Group Supervisor of the Multi-mission Operations Team for the Flight Avionics Section. In 2012, she became a Section Technical Leader at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Since 1997, Ms. Morgan has been a member of the Cassini Spacecraft team under the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
Throughout her career, Ms. Morgan has contributed as an author to the field of aerospace engineering. Three chapters she has written in aerospace engineering books were titled "Robotic Spacecraft Health Management", "Resolving the Difficulties Encountered by JPL Interplanetary Robotic Spacecraft in Flight" and "Cassini Spacecraft-DSN Communications, Handling Anomalous Link Conditions, and Complete Loss-of- Spacecraft Signal." Ms. Morgan also has published several articles to professional journals for the Cassini Spacecraft, including "Cassini Mission-to-Saturn Spacecraft Overview & CDS Preparations for End-of- Mission Proximal Orbits," "Cassini Spacecraft In-Flight Fault Protection Redesign for Unexpected Regulator Malfunction," "Cassini Spacecraft's In-Flight Fault Protection Redesign for Unexpected Regulator Malfunction," Fault Protection Techniques in JPL Spacecraft," and "Enhancing the Cassini Mission through FP Applications after Launch." Under NASA, Ms. Morgan was the recipient of the Certificate of Recognition for NASA Tech Brief entitled, "Fault Protection Techniques in JPL Spacecraft" in 2006.
