With more than 40 years of industry experience, Dr. Kirakowski has worked as coordinator with User eXPerience Solutions since 2014. Prior to this appointment, he served University College Cork as statutory senior lecturer from 1999 to 2015, having been a college lecturer from 1977 to 1999. Earlier in his career, he worked as a university demonstrator at the University of Edinburgh from 1975 to 1977. Dr. Kirakowski began his career as a student at the University of Edinburgh, earning a Master of Arts in social sciences in 1973. He concluded his studies at The University of Edinburgh in 1977, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy.
An expert in the field, Dr. Kirakowski is affiliated with numerous professional organizations. Since 1988, he has served as a technology expert for the European Commission DG XIII, as well as a member of the Advisory Committee for UTEST since 1998. Previously, he held the positions of chairperson of the Ethics Committee at the School of Applied Psychology from 2009 to 2011, the director of Human Factors Research Group at University College, Cork from 1985 to 2014, the technology manager for the EurEauWeb Projects I & II from 2001 to 2007, and the technology manager for the SOL Project from 1998 to 2000. He was the deputy project manager for the RESPECT project from 1996 to 1997, and the project architect of the MUSIC project from 1990 to 1993.
Dr. Kirakowski has found much success in his written work as well, serving as coauthor of such books as "Ballinspittle, Moving Statues and Faith" in 1985, "Effective Methodology for the Study of Human-Computer Interaction" in 1990, "Sumi Questionnaire" in 1992, "Website Analysis and Measurement Inventory" in 2000 and "Handbook of Human Computer Interaction" in 2018. He is also the author of "Human-Computer Interaction from Voltage to Knowledge" in 1988. Additionally, Dr. Kirakowski was the principal viola for the Cork Symphony Orchestra from 1978 to 1983, and remains an active member of the User Experience Professionals' Association.
In light of his contributions, Dr. Kirakowski has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his career. In 2000, he was recognized with a Statutory Lectureship Scholarship by University College Cork. Dr. Kirakowski has also been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
