Ms. Dodd is a retired nurse and military officer of the U.S. Air Force who spent 20 years serving her country. First earning a diploma in nursing in her home state at the Borgess School of Nursing in Kalamazoo, Mich., in 1957, she became commissioned as a second lieutenant and staff nurse in the U.S. Air Force at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas soon after. Practicing medicine on several different bases over the next few years in Alaska, Michigan, and Tennessee, she then became a flight nurse with the 22nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron in Tennessee in the mid-1960s.
Over the next decade, Ms. Dodd continued to work as a staff nurse, chief nurse, and flight nurse across Vietnam, North Carolina, Japan, and Colorado. She spent the remainder of her career in the military as a clinical coordinator of obstetrics-gynecology and flight nurse in Alaska and Mississippi between 1973 and 1979. In 1973, she also became a Diplomate of the U.S. Air Force Air Command and Staff College and, two years later, earned the title of lieutenant colonel.
In 1986, Ms. Dodd began her second career with Bear Creek Corporation in Medford, Ore., one of the nation's leading direct-mail marketers with facilities in Oregon's Rogue River valley, Wasco and Somis, Calif., and Hebron, Ohio. Completing a BS in Psychology and General Studies in 1987 and postgraduate work that same year at Southern Oregon University, Ms. Dodd eventually retired from the organization after 18 years of service in 2004.
The recipient of a Bronze Star, Ms. Dodd has been affiliated with numerous organizations over the years, including as a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and as a life member of The American Legion, the Society of Air Force Nurses, and the Vietnam Veterans of America, among others. In honor of her career, she has been cited in every edition of Who's Who in American since 2000, as well as numerous editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
