Drawing upon more than 13 years of professional experience, Ms. Ham is recognized for her commitment to the conservation of beneficial insects and other natural enemies through the use of management techniques. At the present moment, she serves as a manager of the Research Project Planning Division with the Institute for Bioresources in association with Osangkinsect Co., Ltd.
As a young child, Ms. Ham dreamed of becoming a science fiction writer, just like Bernard Werber. She was especially fascinated by the insects in his books, which inspired her to study insects in college. Since the inception of her career, Ms. Ham has been noted for numerous career achievements, including the technical development for the application of trap and banker plants and natural enemies to control thrips, aphids and spider mites. She is also credited with the development of native natural enemies for the control of hard-to-control insect pests occurring in pear and grape orchards in the Gyeonggi Province.
As she moves forward with her career, Ms. Ham intends to continue working within her fields of expertise, in addition to studying dramatic new treatments for the control of insect pests. In previous positions, she completed studies on the standard setting and rearing of insects, as well as the development of environment-friendly garden pest management tactics and their application method. Ms. Ham holds a certificate of data processing engineering and a Korean language teacher certificate for foreigners.
In recognition of her contributions to the scientific community, Ms. Ham was selected to receive an Originality Award from the Agricultural Environment Research Center. She was most recently named an honoree of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. In an effort to remain alert of recent developments in the engineering industry, Ms. Ham maintains involvement with a wide range of organizations, including the Korean Society of Applied Entomology, the Korea Overseas Volunteers Association, the International Organization for Biological Control - Mass Rearing and Quality Assurance (IOBC-MRQA) and the Korea-Vietnam Friendship Society.
