DEL MAR, CA, March 09, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Kern Kenyon, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Kenyon celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Conducting research in the study of physics of the ocean privately in his home for more than 25 years, Dr. Kenyon is a self-employed oceanographer and physical scientist. Beginning his career in academia as an assistant professor of oceanography in the Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island between 1967 and 1973, over the course of the next near decade, he served as an assistant research oceanographer employed at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), which is one of the oldest and largest centers for ocean and Earth science research, public service, undergraduate and graduate training in the world.
Responsible for discovering a large current off the shore of California in the 1970s, which Dr. Kenyon continues to study today, he notes that research is just something he loves to do. His areas of expertise include not only warm currents in the ocean, but also physical oceanography and wave motion. Initially inspired to study oceanography after hearing President Kennedy speak about the topic on television when he was younger, he is also grateful for one of his mentors, Klaus Hasselmann of Germany, who was visiting the United States at the time and was his thesis advisor while pursuing his doctorate degree.
Dr. Kenyon first studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he completed a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in geology and geophysics. He then completed a Ph.D. in physical oceanography at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography at the UCSD. He has since contributed numerous articles in his field of expertise to such publications as the Journal of Geophysical Research, the Journal of Physical Oceanography, and the Physics Essays, and has contributed two short books, one of which includes "52 One Page Science Stories."
A longtime member of the American Geophysical Union, the Oceanographical Society of Japan, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Meteorological Society and Sigma Xi, Dr. Kenyon was the recipient of a grant early on in his career for his research from the National Science Foundation. Born in Kansas City, MO, Dr. Kenyon has been married to his wife Julie J. Craun since 1966 and has two children. He enjoys watching sports, walking on trails, and formerly spent a lot of time playing tennis. He has been cited in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Science and Engineering for his work.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Kern Kenyon, Ph.D., has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
