With 50 years of practiced industry experience behind him, Dr. Roberds serves as professor emeritus at James Madison University, where he started as professor and head of integrated science and technology in 1993. At the start of his career, he defended his country as a commissioned 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He advanced through various ranks, obtaining the rank of colonel before retiring from the military in 1980, with a Silver Star, eight Air Medals, a Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Subsequently, he lent his expertise in engineering and academia to Clemson University and the University of Tennessee Space Institute.
An alumnus of the University of Kansas and the Air Force Institute of Technology, Dr. Roberds holds a Bachelor of Arts in physics, and Master of Arts and a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering, respectively. A contributor to numerous articles in professional journals, he is affiliated with the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the American Society for Engineering Education, the American Nuclear Society and the American Physical Society. For his excellence in the field, he has been featured in professional publications such as Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the World. In the coming years, Dr. Roberds intends to experience continued success in his role as professor emeritus at James Madison University.
