His experience is largely in federal courts in Chicago but also throughout the country, and he also has substantial experience in state courts and arbitration, mediation, and administrative forums. His public service included stints as Counsel to the Judiciary Committee of the U.S House of Representatives, an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Washington, DC, and Regional Counsel in the Division of Enforcement of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He is a member of the Bars of Illinois, Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Arizona, as well as of several federal district and appellate courts around the country.
Rated "AV" by his peers through Martindale-Hubbell, Mr. Gekas has tried more than 50 cases to jury verdict, and has extensive appellate experience, including in the U.S. Supreme Court in Walters v. Metropolitan Educational Enterprises on behalf of the Petitioner, and in Bd. Of Trustees of Stanford University v. Roche Molecular Systems, Inc. as author of an influential amicus brief. His appellate experience also includes landmark decisions by the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Seventh Circuit and the Federal Circuit, among others.
Mr. Gekas holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Chicago, a JD from the College of Law at the University of Illinois, and a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property from the DePaul University College of Law.
