Dr. Kim is a researcher at the West Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the National Institute of Fisheries Science. In her role for the past three years, she is currently concentrating on biofloc technology, a technique of enhancing water quality in aquaculture by balancing carbon and nitrogen in the system. She formerly spent six years as an intern researcher and just over three years in the organization's National Fisheries Research and Development Institute. From August 2008 to February 2009, she also served as a process assistant with the Korea Biotechnology Commercialization Center.
She then completed a Bachelor of Science in English language and literature with a minor in bioinformation engineering at Sangmyung College in 2005, a Master of Arts in marine science and biological engineering in 2008, and a Ph.D. in biological sciences at Inha University in 2014. Conducting research in her field since 2005, beginning with the development of culture technique of sea cucumber, Stichopus japonicus, Dr. Kim has more recently been working on an ongoing project for the development of shrimp farming in Ouargla, Algeria, and conducting training of environment-friendly shrimp aquaculture.
Dr. Kim has authored and co-authored several refereed journal articles in her field of expertise in such publications as the Journal of Environmental Science International, the Fish and Shellfish Immunology, and the Journal of Crustacean Biology since 2007. She has also led numerous presentations over the past few years both locally and internationally for such organizations as the World Aquaculture Society in Jeju, Republic of Korea, Aquaculture America in New Orleans, LA, in the United States, and San Sebastian in Spain. Since 2011, Dr. Kim has been serving as an official development assistant for the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Algeria and is also active as a longstanding member of the Malacological Society of Korea, the Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Science, the Korean Environmental Science Society and the World Aquaculture Society.
