Michael Sydow is a Houston-based attorney who specializes in civil trial law. With more than 30 years of experience serving as lead counsel on cases involving complex family matters, maritime law and intellectual property, he has earned a reputation for being diligent and thorough. Mr. Sydow received a Bachelor's degree from Southwestern University before earning a JD, with honors, from the University of Texas School of Law in 1976. That same year, he was admitted to the Texas Bar and was named an Outstanding Student in the Navy's postgraduate law program. He then became a trial attorney in the Navy General Counsel's Office, where he was responsible for major litigation focused on service contracts, construction, and research and development.
Mr. Sydow later joined the firms of Eastham, Watson, Dale & Forney; Hagans & Sydow, LLP; and Reynolds & Sydow, LLP, before going into private practice from 1990 to 1993. He was also a shareholder in Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson & Hand from 1997 to 2002. A member of the Houston Bar Association, he was chairman of its judicial liaison committee from 1988 to 1990, the same year he received the organization's President's Award. One of his more well-known clients was the late Michael Jackson, whom Mr. Sydow represented as general counsel.
Mr. Sydow has been a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States and its practice and procedures committee. He has been admitted to the Texas State Bar, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Western, Southern and Northern Districts of Texas, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition to his undergraduate and law degrees, he earned board certification in civil trial law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
