Splitting his time between two schools for many years, Dr. Zorn recently retired after 36 years of service from the Poland School District in Poland, OH, as superintendent of schools in 2012. Already affiliated with Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, as an adjunct faculty member since 1983, he then served as the education administration program department chair of graduate studies beginning in 2012, and one year later, took on the responsibility of director of the graduate school. Dr. Zorn's extensive background in education also included serving as an assistant superintendent at Mahoning County Board of Education for six years and as an elementary school principal at Poland School District for five years.
As department chair at Westminster College, Dr. Zorn was responsible for coordinating the education administration program in the graduate school, advising graduate students, teaching graduate courses in school administration, and serving as a liaison with the state education department for accreditation. He also served on various graduate committees. Today, in his role of director, Dr. Zorn directs numerous Master of Education graduate programs, as well as the master graduate program in licensed professional counseling and post-baccalaureate programs.
Affiliated as a longtime member of the American Association of School Administrators, the Doctoral Association of Educators at the University of Pittsburgh, and the Westminster College chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, Dr. Zorn has also served as a consultant in his area of expertise for numerous educational organizations, including Akron State University School of Education, Lisbon Exempted Village School District, Marietta College, Kent State University and the Ohio Department of Education. Furthermore, he has written extensively in professional publications such as the School Management Newsletter and the American School Boards Journal, and has authored and co-authored 11 books, most recently including "Westminster College Through Time" in 2014, and "Images of America: Poland" in 2010.
Dr. Zorn's tireless dedication to the field has earned him numerous accolades as well. Named Superintendent of the Year by the Ohio Parent Teacher Organization in 1990, he was more recently the recipient of an Outstanding Achievement Award for academic excellence by the Poland Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence in 2012.
Serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1961, and exiting the military as a lieutenant, Dr. Zorn holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Kent State University, Master of Education Administration from Westminster College, and Doctorate of Curriculum and Instruction in Education Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, and completed postdoctoral studies in education administration at Harvard University. Recently celebrating 60 years of marriage to his wife Joan M. Wilkos Zorn, Dr. Zorn has two children. He has been highlighted in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.
