With more than 20 years of professional experience in academia, Dr. Kang has been a professor with the Chonbuk National University Department of Housing Environmental Design since 2008. Prior to obtaining his current position, he worked with the Iksan National College Department of Forest Products and Technology as an associate professor from 2004 to 2008, as an assistant professor from 2000 to 2004, and as a full time lecturer from 1998 to 2000. Earlier in his career, he served as a part time lecturer with the Departments of Forest Products and Technology of Korea University from 1997 to 1998, of Chonbuk National University in 1999, of Iksan National College from 1995 to 1998, and of Kyung Hee University in 1996. In addition, Dr. Kang has been a visiting professor with Kyushu University and with Oregon State University.
Dr. Kang began his career as a student at Seoul National University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1987 and a Master of Science in 1990. He went on to study at Kyushu University, earning a PhD in 1995, and he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship with Chungnam National University's Department of Forest Products and Technology.
Dr. Kang's research focuses on measuring sound absorption rates on wood and wood-based materials, materials and micro-mechanics, the hygroscopic properties of wood, and the acoustical properties of wood. Over the course of his professional career, he has coauthored a number of books, including "Theory and practice for lighting design," published by Chonbuk National University in 2018, "Wood processing and modification," published by Seowoo Press in 2015, "Wood anatomy and interior," published by Media Wood Press in 2013, "A new introduction to Wood drying," published by Seoul National University in 2008, "Wood physics and Mechanics," published by Hyangmoon-sa in 2008, and the "Introduction to Wood drying," published by Seoul National University in 2005. He has also published numerous articles in professional journals, He also holds seven patents for eco-friendly sound absorption materials.
Dr. Kang is a member of the Forest Products Society, the Korea Furniture Research Society, the Korea Wood Research Society, the Japan Wood Research Society, and the Kyushu Regional Society of the Japan Wood Research Society. In recognition of his outstanding research in his industry, he was awarded the Governor's Commendation for Technology Development in Jeonju in 2004 and 2011. Dr. Kang is the son of Kang Sam Cha and Kim Gui Soo. He is married to Jin Mi Ra and has two children, Kang Min Jee and Kang Min Jae.
