    COLUMBUS, OH, March 28, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Violet Imhof Meek, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Meek celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Widely regarded in the educational community, Dr. Meek retired in 2003 following a successful career as a scientist, professor and administrator. While serving The Ohio State University at Lima, as the dean and director, she was instrumental in expanding undergraduate and graduate degree programs in an effort to offer a larger range of educational opportunities. She takes great pride in her involvement with the school, as well as her involvement with the local community as a whole.

Driven by an interest in science and a desire to learn how things worked, Dr. Meek received a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from St. Olaf College in 1960. During this time, she was selected to receive the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship as well as a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship. Dr. Meek went on to attend the University of Illinois, where she completed a Master of Science in 1962 and a PhD in chemistry in 1964. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi. She served Mount Holyoke College as an Instructor in chemistry before joining Ohio Wesleyan University.

Between 1965 and 1984, Dr. Meek rose from the role of assistant professor to professor, and in 1980, she was recognized as the Dean of Educational Services. She joined the Council of Independent Colleges in Washington,D.C. in 1984 as the director of annual programs, a position she held until joining The Ohio State University Research Foundation as associate director of sponsored programs in 1986. In 1991 she was named Dean and Director of The Ohio State University at Lima, serving until her retirement in 2002.

Throughout the course of her career, Dr. Meek has contributed numerous articles to professional journals pertaining to her areas of expertise. She is credited as the co-author of "Experimental General Chemistry," which was published in 1984. In recognition of her contributions to the fields of education and science, in addition, she was named an Outstanding New Professional of the Midwest Region by the National Council of Research Administrators in 1990.

Dr. Meek was actively involved in the life of West Central Ohio, serving and chairing the Boards of Art Space/Lima, the Lima Symphony Orchestra. Allen Lima Leadership, American House, Lima Veterans Memorial Civic Center Foundation, and United Way of Lima/Allen County. Under her leadership as Board Chair, the Allen County Chamber of Commerce achieved national recognition and certification. In recognition of her work she was named as a Golden Paradigm Woman of Achievement in 1995, and as an Athena Award honoree in 2001. The annual Violet I Meek Town Gown Award was named in her honor recognizing members of the West Central Ohio Communities who themselves expand education opportunities.

Long active in the Ohio and national expressions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Dr. Meek served on the Boards of the Ohio Council of Churches, Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio, and the Foundation of the Southern Ohio Synod of the ELCA. Dr. Meek chaired the Board of Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio from 1995 through 2003. In 2004 she was ordained as a pastor in the ELCA, serving as Pastor of Emanuel Lutheran Church from 2003 through 2013 and as Pastor Emerita to the present. She continues to serve as a member and chair of the board of the Deaconess Community of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Dr. Meek has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.
