Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Kwon pursued an education at Konkuk University, earning a Bachelor of Arts. He followed this accomplishment with a Master of Science from the Graduate School of Science at Konkuk University in 1984. In 1991, Dr. Kwon concluded his studies at Hannam University, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy.
Beyond his efforts within the field, Dr. Kwon has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. A member of the American Society for Microbiology since 1984, he served as chairman of the Clinical Technologists Examination Committee for Korea National Health Examination Institute from 2004 to 2015, dean for the College of Biomedical Science at Konyang University from 2012 to 2014, president of the Korean Society for Biomedical Laboratory Sciences from 2003 to 2005, and council chairman for the Korean Society of Clinical Microbiology from 2001 to 2003. Likewise, he found much success as an author, penning such written works as "Human Life Science" in 2015, "Clinical Mycology" in 2012, "Hospital Infection Management" in 2008, and "Diagnostic Microbiology" in 2005. Dr. Kwon has served as chairman and president of the Journal of Experimental & Biomedical Sciences for the Korean Society for Biomedical Laboratory Sciences from 2012 to 2014 and from 2010 to 2012, respectively, and was appointed Editor-in-Chief for the Korean Society of Clinical Technologists from 2008 to 2009.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Kwon has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He has previously been presented with a Pharmaceutical Award from HANDOK in 1995, an Award from the Ministry of Health and Welfare with the Republic of Korea in 2000, a Best Paper Award from the Korean Society of Mycology in 2012, and an Award from the Ministry of Education with the Republic of Korea in 2013 and 2015. Furthermore, Dr. Kwon was recognized as the Honorable President of Konyang University in 2011.
