With nearly 30 years of professional experience in biotechnology, Dr. Kim has been a professor with the Kunsan National University Department of Food Science and Biotechnology since 2009. Prior to obtaining his current role, he served as a senior research scientist in several international settings, including with the RIKEN Genomic Sciences Center's Protein Research Group in Kanagawa, Japan, from 2004 to 2009, and with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Functional Proteomics Laboratory in the United States from 2000 to 2004. Earlier in his career, Dr. Kim worked as an assistant professor of chemistry with the Aoyama Gakuin University College of Science and Engineering in Tokyo, Japan, from 1995 to 2000.
Dr. Kim began his career as a student at Pukyong National University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1989. From 1989 to 1990, he worked as a research assistant of applied chemistry with the National Fisheries University of Pusan College of Science, returning to Pukyong National University to complete a Master of Science in chemistry in 1991. He then traveled to Japan to join the University of Tokyo faculty of science in biophysics and biochemistry in 1991, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in biophysics and biochemistry with the school in 1995.
A respected voice in the field, Dr. Kim has written and co-written nearly 70 publications for professional journals. He is a member of the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Science, the Korean Society of Food Science and Technology, and the Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition. A veteran of the Korean military, Dr. Kim is married and the proud father of one son and one daughter.
