ANN ARBOR, MI, April 03, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Gordon Leon Kane, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Kane celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

The Victor Weisskopf Distinguished University Professor of Physics and director emeritus of the Michigan (Leinweber Center for Theoretical Physics) at the University of Michigan (UM), Dr. Kane has been teaching at the university since 1965. First taken on board as an assistant professor, he later became a full professor in 1972. Specializing in theoretical cosmology, astrophysics and theoretical elementary particle physics, with a general interest in areas involving connection of theory and experiment for gauge theories of elementary particles, he maintains a focus on ways to test, extend and strengthen the very successful standard model of particle physics in his research. He has also emphasized the supersymmetric extension of the standard model alongside methods for discovering and understanding the Higgs sector. In recent years he has focused on an M-theory based description of our world, and tests of string theory. He is a world leader in string phenomenology.

Completing his undergraduate work at the University of Minnesota, followed by a master's degree and Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Illinois, Dr. Kane then completed two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore between 1963 and 1965 before accepting his first appointment at UM.

Dr. Kane authored over 200 articles during his career in such journals as Physical Review Letters, Physics Review, and the International Journal of Modern Physics, edited several books, and authored "Modern Elementary Particle Physics," "The Particle Garden" and "Supersymmetry" and "Supersymmetry and Beyond" in 2012, and "String Theory and the Real World" in 2017. There are over 20,000 citations to his papers. He has spent time as a member of the Institute of Advisory Study at Princeton University, served on various committees for such organizations as the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and the Brookhaven National Laboratory, was a member of the U.S.-Japan Joint Workshop Group on Superconducting Supercollider and chaired the theoretical physics panel for the National Science Foundation Triennial Committee of Visitors. Furthermore, Dr. Kane was a Delphasus lecturer at the University of Santa Cruz.

A fellow of the American Physical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the British Institute of Physics, Dr. Kane is also a senior member of the Michigan Society of Fellows and a member of the Particles and Fields Society. Awarded with the American Physical Society J.J. Sakurai Award in 2016, the Julius Edgar Lilienfeld Prize by the American Physical Society in 2012, and a Research Excellence Award from the University of Michigan in 1997, he was also a J.S. Guggenheim Foundation Fellow from 1971 to 1972. Highlighted in more than 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World, Dr. Kane has been married to his wife Lois Elizabeth Kliffer for many years, has two children and enjoys understanding history in his free time.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Gordon Leon Kane, Ph.D., has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
