He is the Director of Infusion Medicine and Strategic Rheumatology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He has worked as an attending physician at Lenox Hill Hospital since 1986, an attending physician at Beth Israel Medical Center at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai since 1980, and an assistant professor of medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai since 1980. Earlier in his career, Dr. Adlersberg served as an attending physician at the Jacobi Medical Center from 1974 to 1980, as well as an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Rheumatic Diseases and Immunology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1974 to 1980.
Dr. Adlersberg has also been an attending physician and assistant professor of medicine at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, NYU Langone Medical Center since 1980. He was previously an attending physician at the Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1974 to 1980, an attending physician at Montefiore Medical Center from 1974 to 1976, and a teaching assistant in medicine at New York University Medical Center from 1972 to 1974. Dr. Adlersberg served as a teaching fellow in rheumatology at Bellevue Hospital from 1972 to 1974.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Adlersberg obtained a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, at the University of Pittsburgh in 1965, where he was elected in his junior year to the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He went on to earn a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1969, interning in internal medicine at New York University Medical Center's Bellevue Hospital from 1969 to 1970. He then became a junior assistant resident and assistant resident in medicine at Bellevue Hospital from 1970 to 1972, and a National Institutes of Health Fellow in rheumatology and immunology at New York University from 1972 to 1974, under the late Dr. Edward C. Franklin.
A diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and National Board of Medical Examiners, Dr. Adlersberg has served his community in various capacities, acting as an elected member of the board of directors of the New York chapter of the Arthritis Foundation since 2005 and was also a member of the chapter's Medical and Scientific Committee. In addition, he has been a Master of Ceremonies with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and member of the Staten Island Hospice Association.
An expert in the field of rheumatology, Dr. Adlersberg maintains affiliation with several professional networks, including the American Medical Association, the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Rheumatism Association, the New York Rheumatism Association, the New York County Medical Society, and the Medical Society of the State of New York. He is also a fellow of the American College of Rheumatology.
Dr. Adlersberg was the nightly Health and Medical reporter for "Eyewitness News" at WABC-TV continuously from 1983 to 2014. He was the host of the program "Healthy Life" in 2007, a weekly medical correspondent of "The Health Show" on ABC News from 1987 to 1990, and was a co-host of the "Arthritis Telethon" on WOR-TV from 1982 to 1986. In addition, he was the weekly health columnist of the Bridgehampton Sun from 1980 to 1981, and a guest host of "Healthline" on WNYU-AM Radio in 1980. In addition, he was previously a keynote speaker for the Jonas Salk Scholarship Awards in 1993.
In recognition of his achievements, Dr. Adlersberg has been honored with several accolades throughout his career. From 1998 to 2008, he was a featured listee in How to Find the Best Doctors in New York, a recipient of the Award for Achievement in Clinical Medicine in 2007, an honoree as one of the Best Doctors in New York from New York Magazine in 1998 and 2005, and a recipient of a citation for his contributions to medical journalism by the New York City Council in 2003. Furthermore, Dr. Adlersberg was the recipient of the George Foster Peabody Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2001 for his reporting in ABC News' coverage of "September 11, 2001." He was a grantee of the American Cancer Society from 1977 to 1979. Dr. Adlersberg has been a featured listee in Best Doctors by Castle Connolly from 1997 to the present.
Dr. Adlersberg is also an award-winning professional photographer and is the author and photographer of the prize-winning coffee table art book, Ireland in Word and Image and has been a photo contributor to Getty Images since 2011.
