Prior to founding his own law firm, he served as vice president and on the board of directors for Crosby, Roach & May, PC, from 1975 to 2000. From 1970 to 1975, he was a partner with St. Sure, Moore, Hoyt & Sizoo from 1970 to 1975, having been an associate with St. Sure, Moore & Hoyt from 1966 to 1970. Earlier in his career, he was an associate with Steel & Arostegui from 1965 to 1966, and deputy counsel for Yolo County from 1962 to 1965.
Mr. Burnison began his career as a student at the Iowa State University of Science and Technology, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1957. He went on to earn a JD with the University of California, Berkeley, in 1961. He has been admitted to practice in the state of California, as well as before the United States Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and before the United States District Courts for the Central, Eastern, and Northern Districts of California.
As a respected voice in the field, Mr. Burnison has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the State Bar of California, and has been a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco, the American Bar Association, the Yolo County Bar Association, the Contra Costa County Bar Association, and the Yuba Sutter Bar Association. He has served in a number of leadership roles with the Alameda County Bar Association, including as a director, chair, president, and on the board of directors.
Throughout his career, Mr. Burnison has been recognized numerous times for his contributions. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Alameda Bar Association, and he has been recognized as a lifetime fellow with the American Bar Foundation and as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. He has also been active in his community with a number of organizations, and was awarded as volunteer of the year by the Berkeley YMCA. However, the highlight of Mr. Burnison's career was his time as president of the Alameda County Bar Association.
