With more than 20 years of industry experience to her credit, Dr. Scaff is currently retired, having most recently served as a visiting professor for Silliman University from 1979 to 1980. Prior to this appointment, she was a visiting professor for LaSalle University from 1978 to 1979, an associate professor for the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 1972 to 1978, an assistant professor for the University of Iowa from 1966 to 1972, and the head counselor for El Roble Intermediate School from 1961 to 1966. From 1956 to 1960, Dr. Scaff began her career as an executive director for the Danforth Project at the Claremont Colleges.
Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Scaff pursued an education at the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1936. She followed this accomplishment with a Master of Arts at the University of Chicago in 1938. In 1964, she continued her academic efforts at Claremont Graduate University, receiving a Master of Arts. Dr. Scaff concluded her studies in 1968, graduating from Claremont Graduate University with a Doctor of Philosophy.
Beyond her efforts within the field, Dr. Scaff has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. Contributing as a co-organizer for Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden since 1983, she has held the positions of board overseer for Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden from 2004 to 2010, a management training advisor for the League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County from 1996 to 1999, president of League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County from 1994 to 1996, and chair of the Clinebell Institute from 1985 to 1994. Previously, Dr. Scaff was on the board of directors and the board of trustees for Pilgrim Place between 1984 and 1994, the president of the League of Women Voters of the Claremont Area, California from 1988 to 1990, and the trustee for the Claremont Unified School District from 1956 to 1960 and again from 1982 to 1984.
Additionally, Dr. Scaff has been both consultant and workshop leader with the North Carolina Juvenile Services Association from 1977 to 1978. She also found much success with written work as well, having co-authored such works as "Water Issues in Claremont, California" in 2005, "Child and Adolescent Welfare in Pomona Valley" in 1991, and "Drugs and the School Counselor" in 1972. The editor for "Perspectives on a College Church" in 1961, Dr. Scaff has also contributed many articles to professional journals.
In addition to her primary trade, Dr. Scaff remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She has maintained membership with Sustainable Claremont, the American School Counselor Association, the American Personnel and Guidance Association, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and the United Nations Foundation. She has also been involved with the Mortar Board National Office, The Phi Beta Kappa Society, Pi Lambda Theta, and the Youth Master Plan Committee with the City of Claremont since 1994. Serving as the chair for the Water Task Force with the League of Women Voters of the Claremont Area since 2005, Dr. Scaff has contributed to the Children's Defense Fund, the UN Association, the YWCA, the Girl Scouts of America, and as director 2 with local civic conferences from 1989 to 1990.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Scaff has accrued several accolades and honors throughout her impressive career. Receiving a Recognition Award from the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, she has been presented with the Ruth Ordway Award from the League of Women Voters in 1997, the 50 Year Leadership and Service Award from the League of Women Voters of California in 1997, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the YWCA in 2003, and the LA County Vision Award from the League of Women Voters in 2003. Honored as Citizen of the Year by the City of Claremont, CA, in 1997, she earned the Caroline Beatty Award from the League of Women Voters in 2007, as well as the 25 Year Service Award from the Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden. Dr. Scaff has also been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women.
