Karen W. Mahan serves on the Board of El Centro de Servicios Sociales, and the Educational Advisory Council of United Way of Greater Lorain County.

With more than 30 years of professional experience in education, Ms. Mahan has served as an administrator at Lorain Digital Academy since 2015 and as a consultant since 2010. From 1999 to 2010, she held the role of administrator for Lorain City Schools and from 1984 to 1999, she served as a school psychologist for the district. Ms. Mahan was an adjunct professor at Ashland University from 1995 to 1999. Earlier professional roles include early identification coordinator for the Children's Resource Center, and intern school psychologist in Wood County, OH.
Ms. Mahan earned a BA in psychology and Afro-American studies in 1980, and a Master of Education in school psychology in 1981, both at Bowling Green State University. She is a licensed superintendent, principal, and in pupil personnel, and holds certification as a Montessori elementary teacher, and in school psychology. She hopes to pursue a PhD in the future. Ms. Mahan is a member of the American Association of University Women, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and Phi Delta Kappa. She serves on the Board of El Centro de Servicios Sociales, and the Educational Advisory Council of United Way of Greater Lorain County. She has served on the Board of the Lorain County Volunteer Action Center and chaired the Lorain County Child Abuse and Neglect Advisory Board.
Ms. Mahan has been recognized for her professional achievements, earning recognition in Who's Who in Professional and Executive Women, Who's Who in American Education, and Outstanding Young Women in America. She also received the Distinguished Service Award, was named a Kentucky Colonel, and had an article published in a local newspaper. Born to Cecil and Ruby Mahan, Ms. Mahan has one daughter named Tahirah Mahan-Thomas.
Attributing her professional success to her perseverance and desire to succeed, Ms. Mahan intends to experience continued success in her career with Lorain Digital Academy.
Her hobbies include car racing, watching baseball, and visiting museums and book stores.
