An expert in nondestructive testing technologies and computer aided analysis and design, Dr. Alobaidi has served as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of System Engineering at Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock since May 2017. From January to May 2017, he was a graduate teaching assistant at the University. He has also been an instructor of mechanical engineering technology at the University since 2016. He previously worked in the university's Department of System Engineering as a teaching assistant and instructor from 2014 to 2016, and as a graduate research assistant from 2012 to 2014. From 2010 to 2012, he worked as a mechanical engineer with the Welspun Pipeline nondestructive testing department from 2010 to 2012. Earlier in his career, he was an HVAC designer with Almco, Inc. in 2010, and a team leader of mechanical engineering design for the Mercury Development Real Estate Company from 2006 to 2010, and for Relysis Resources Limited from 2002 to 2006.
Dr. Alobaidi began his career as a student at the University of Technology, Iraq, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 2002. He went on to study at the Middle Technical University, completing a Higher Advanced Diploma in refrigeration and air conditioning engineering technology in 2006. He later worked with the United States Army Corps of Engineers Middle East District before traveling to the United States to join the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, earning a Master of Science in system engineering in 2013, and a PhD in engineering science and systems, and mechanical and materials engineering in 2017.

He is the first author of "Experimental Evaluation of Novel Hybrid Microwave/Ultrasonic Technique to Locate and Characterize Pipe Wall Thinning," "Development of an Optimized Neural Network for the Detection of Pipe Defects Using a Microwave Signal," "A Rule Based Evolutionary Optimization Approach for the Traveling Salesman Problem," and "Localised Surface Plasmon-like Resonance Generated by Microwave Electromagnetic Waves in Pipe Defects," among others. In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Alobaidi received the Successful Doctoral Student Award from the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
