Dr. Pilipchuk, a professor of research and lecturer at Wayne State University in Michigan for the past nine years and project engineer and consultant for research and development with General Motors (GM) since 2003, specializes in the study of nonlinear phenomena such as non-smooth processes and structures, localization and synchronization, as well as applications in structural dynamics and biosystems. Teaching nonlinear physics and mathematics on campus, he formerly spent time as a research associate at the university from 1997 to 2003. He also taught in his home country of Ukraine as a professor and head of his department at the Chemical and Technological University in the town of Dnepropetrovsk between 1980 and 2001.
Born in Striy, Ukraine, Dr. Pilipchuk earned a Master of Science in mechanical engineering and Doctor of Philosophy in physics and mathematics at Dnepropetrovsk State University in 1976 and 1979, respectively. He also earned a Doctor of Science in physics and mathematics at the Moscow Institute for Problems in Mechanics in 1992 and a Doctor of Science in physics and mathematics at the Kiev Institute of Mathematics in 1993. He became a certified professor through the Ministry of Education in the Ukraine in 1994.
The author and co-author of three books, more than 60 peer reviewed articles and several abstracts over the past 35 years and the current associate editor for the Nonlinear Dynamic Journal since 2015, Dr. Pilipchuk has also held seven patents since 2010, including a hybrid brake control, a real-time allocation of actuator torque in a vehicle, and optimal corner controls for vehicles, all through GM Global Technology Operations, Inc. Recognized with an R&D GM Award in 2012 for his vehicle stability control patents, he has also received several other awards throughout his career, including a Theodore Von Karman Fellow from RWTH Aachen, Germany, in 2017, a Best Paper of the Year Award for an article in the Mechanics of Solids Journal by the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1995, and a Young Investigator Award from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 1975. He was also the recipient of a National Science Foundation grant in 1996.
Dr. Pilipchuk is active as a member of the American Mathematical Society and the Applied Mathematics and Mechanics Society of Germany. Highlighted in several editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World since 1999, Dr. Pilipchuk has been married to his wife Irina Viktorovna Marukhno since 1980 and is the father of one child.
