Mr. Giacona has served as the president/CEO of the Giacona Container Co. (www.Giacona.com and www.PartyCupExpress.com) since 1972. Giacona Container Co. is a 94-year-old food and drinkware packaging, promotional advertising, manufacturing and creative design firm pioneering in plastics. He started as a plant manager of the Amos C. Harris/Giacona Can Co. in New Orleans in 1962, and served as a territory manager of Ross Laboratories from 1964 to 1972, was on Ross's National Marketing Advisory Board & top salesman ranking in several product categories nationally before assuming his current role. Mr. Giacona has been an influential member of his community, notably as president of the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana and as chairman of the Advisory Board of the World Trade Center of New Orleans (the World's First).
An alumnus of the University of New Orleans, Mr. Giacona earned a BA in 1965 completing Pre-Med requirements with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Chemistry. He is a native of the Big Easy, born to Louis Joseph and Claire Giacona. As a businessman in the city, he has been influential in numerous aspects of its society, contributing to the Loyola University School of International Business. He has held a seat on the boards of directors of the Louisiana Maritime Museum (President), the Louisiana Science Center, Family Services of Louisiana, as well as the New Orleans Convention and Visitor Bureau (former Vice President). Mr. Giacona became an officer of the Krewe of Alla and was selected to reign as King in 1990 Mardi Gras, and has been a member of the advisory board to the dean of Tulane Medical School.
In his college years, he was a television & radio personality and prior to Hurricane Katrina was broadcasting a weekly radio show simulcast on the World Wide Web & the local CNN radio affiliate WGSO, 990 AM, called "BIZ INTERNATIONAL".
Mr. Giacona maintains affiliations with several area groups, including the Knights of Columbus and formerly with the Timberlane Country Club. In college, he was admitted to the Phi Kappa Theta International College Fraternity. He is a practicing Roman Catholic, and affiliated with the Republican Party. Mr. Giacona married his wife Patricia Ellen Nunez (Interior Designer/Historic Property Contractor/Restorer and present Sec./Treas. of Giacona Container Co.) in July of 1964, they have been married 54 years, had three children who have all had managerial positions at Giacona Container: Gina Lisa (present COO), Corrado Anthony III, and Louis Joseph II and presently have 8 grandchildren.
Mr. Giacona has been a featured listee in Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. In advance of the 2018 Tri-Centennial Celebration of the founding of New Orleans, he was chosen by the Times-Picayune as one of 300 "People & Moments that Inspire & Connect Us" for having created the famous collectable plastic "Mardi Gras Throw Cups ™".
