After honing her skills for 45 years, Ms. Boland retired from her most recent position in the field of library sciences. At the start of her career, she joined the Provincial Library in Regina, Canada, as a reference librarian. Subsequently, she held the same role with the University of Saskatchewan, the Seattle Public Library, and the Undergraduate Library at the University of Washington. She also served as a volunteer reference librarian for Washington State Library, an instructor at the Library School of the University of Washington, and head reference librarian at the Undergraduate Library at the University of Washington. For several years, she has served as a member of the citizen's advisory committee at the Washington State Library.
A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, McGill University, and the University of Washington, Ms. Boland holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Library Science, and a Master of Library Science. A member of the Washington Library Association, she also served as a lobbyist for the Washington Coalition Against Censorship and served as an officer of the Precinct Committee of Thurston County Democrats for 4 years. She has contributed articles on censorship issues. Notably, she has been recognized many times for her accomplishments. She was the recipient of a scholarship from the Government of Saskatchewan, and received the John L. McKinnon Trophy from Saskatchewan Technical Collegiate. Since 2006, Ms. Boland has been honored in one volume of Who's Who in the World, and three volumes each of Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women. She was also selected for inclusion with the 1974 to 1975 World Who's Who of Women, Volume 2, from Cambridge, Melrose Press, as well as the 1973 Dictionary of International Biography, Volume 9, from A-K Cambridge and Melrose Press.
Ms. Boland was the contact person for the Thurston County Chapter of the ACLU from 1995 to 2002. She is an active member of the Friends of Clinton Presidential Foundation, Friends of WA State Library, Southern Poverty Law Center, People For the American Way, and Beta Phi Mu, Library Honor Society.
