A retired medical internist, cardiologist and medical educator of more than 30 years, Dr. Pomfret was very influential at the Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick, MA, between 1968 and 1980. Serving as chief of medicine for three years, followed by another four years as chief of staff, he also upheld his own private practice in Natick, MA, for many years. Licensed to practice in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, he received a Bachelor of Science at Stonehill College in 1959 and a Doctor of Medicine at the University College Dublin, Ireland, in 1964, followed by an internship and residency at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center and Boston University in Boston.
Dr. Pomfret taught as a professor of medicine at Tumaini University Medical College in Moshi, Tanzania, from 1996 to 2000. He also taught as a clinical professor at Tufts University in Boston from 1976 to 2000. During his tenure, he authored the book "Computer Science" in 1998 and "Dispatches from Kilimanjaro" in 2006.

He also received an Outstanding Alumnus Award from Stonehill College in 2003. Highlighted in dozens of editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Dr. Pomfret has long been married to his wife Dr. Anna Pomfret née Rafferty and has four children and eight grandchildren. He enjoys skiing, sailing and offshore racing in his retirement.
