MEMPHIS, TN, May 08, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charles Edward Carpenter Sr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With 40 years of legal experience to his credit, Mr. Carpenter founded and has been the chief principal of Carpenter Law, PLLC (successor of Charles E. Carpenter, A Professional Corporation), since 1978. A law practice specializing in municipal finance, tax-exempt bonds, and corporate matters, his firm was the first minority-owned law firm in the state of Tennessee to earn placement in The Bond Buyer's Municipal Marketplace, more commonly known as "The Red Book," in 1992. Mr. Carpenter's practice has been certified as a Minority Business Enterprise by the Uniform Certification Agency, a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise by the Tennessee Uniform Certification Program, and as a Small, Minority and Women Business Enterprise by the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Carpenter pursued an education at Howard University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1974. He concluded his studies at the University of Notre Dame, graduating from the Law School with a Juris Doctor in 1977. Mr. Carpenter followed these accomplishments with licenses to practice law in the state of Tennessee and the District of Columbia.
Beyond his efforts within the field, he has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. In 1991, he held the position of campaign chairman for Mayor Willie W. Herenton, playing a pivotal role in the historic election of the first elected African-American Mayor of Memphis. He has also maintained membership with the Memphis Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, the National Association of Bond Lawyers and the National Bar Association. In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Carpenter has accrued several accolades, honors and scholarships throughout his impressive career, including his Firm's practice recognition among the Top 100 Law Firms in the Nation as Counsel to the Underwriters of long-term debt by The Bond Buyer's Municipal Marketplace.
Attributing his success to excellent training, his strong work ethic and remaining active with all new developments in his industry, Mr. Carpenter was inspired to enter his field by the support of his mother, the value of education and the desire to help the less fortunate. The highlight of his career thus far has been his involvement with municipal finance, which came alongside his civic and community efforts. Looking towards the future, Mr. Carpenter plans to continue mentoring his son and law partner, Corbin Ira Carpenter, while transitioning more responsibility to him as the firm moves forward and expands beyond their current region.
