Dr. Gerald Krueger is a noted research psychologist and a certified professional ergonomist with over 50 years of experience in these two fields of endeavor. He has been the president of Krueger Ergonomics Consultants since 1998. Dr. Krueger was a senior human factors specialist with TG O'Brien Associates, Inc., in Colorado from 2008 to 2013; a principal scientist and ergonomist with the Wexford Group International in Virginia from 2000 to 2007; a principal research scientist with Star Mountain, Inc., in Virginia from 1995-1998; and he was vice-president of ergonomics research and development services with the Biomechanics Corporation of America in New York from 1994 to 1995.
In addition to his lauded career as a research psychologist and as an ergonomist, Dr. Krueger served in numerous capacities on active duty with the U.S. Army. From 1969-1971, he served as a human factors research psychologist with the U.S. Army Human Engineering Laboratory in Maryland. He was employed as a research and development coordinator with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in Saigon, Vietnam from 1971 to 1972; a military police operations officer with the U.S. Army in Maryland in 1972; and as an aviation psychologist with the U. S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory in Alabama from 1976 to 1980, and again from 1988 to 1990. He served as deputy chief of behavioral biology at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Maryland from 1984 to 1988. Dr. Krueger was the military commander and technical director of the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in Massachusetts from 1990 to 1994 – he retired from the Army there in 1994.
Gerald Krueger earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology at the University of Dayton in 1966. Subsequently, he obtained a Master of Arts in experimental and engineering psychology and a PhD in experimental psychology from Johns Hopkins University in 1975 and 1977, respectively. Dr. Krueger is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in 1980, as well as a graduate of the U.S. Army War College in 1988.
Utilizing his experience in academia, Dr. Krueger taught as an adjunct assistant professor of military psychology with the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences from 1998 to 2014. He further held academic appointments as an instructor at Johns Hopkins University from 1974 to 1975, and with the University of Southern California from 1997 to 1980.
Alongside his vocational achievements, Dr. Krueger is also an accomplished author and editor within his fields of expertise. He has contributed over 150 publications throughout the course of his career, including articles to professional journals, chapters to books, and technical reports to a variety of federal government agencies. He has been a book review editor for Ergonomics in Design Quarterly since 1995, and he served as an associate editor for the journal Military Psychology from 1991 to 2003. Dr. Krueger participated with numerous professional committees, boards and scientific peer-review panels, including the National Academies of Sciences. He served on the board of directors of the Federation of Associations in Behavioral, Cognitive, and Psychological Sciences from 2007 to 2010; and he was a member of the board of directors of the Commonwealth Biotechnologies, Inc., in Virginia from 2004 to 2007.
Dr. Krueger is an elected fellow in four prestigious organizations, including the American Psychological Association, for which he served as president of the military psychology division from 1995-1996, and he was president of the division of engineering psychology from 2001 to 2002; the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, with whom he was the president of the Potomac Chapter in 2003. He is also a fellow in the Washington Academy of Sciences, and the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors; and he is an associate fellow in the Aerospace Medical Association.
In recognition of his diverse accomplishments, Dr. Krueger has received numerous accolades and several prestigious awards. He is the 1978 recipient of the Richard M. Griffith Memorial Award from the Southern Society of Philosophy and Psychology; he received an Order of Military Merit for Career Contributions from the Army Medical Department in 1992, as well as several military awards and medals, including the Legion of Merit in 1994, the Bronze Star in 1972, and the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters. Most recently, in 2015 Dr. Krueger was celebrated with the John C. Flanagan Award for Lifetime Achievements in Military Psychology from the American Psychological Association and the Society of Military Psychology.
Over the past five decades, Dr. Krueger also contributed significant amounts of volunteer time to a variety of community activities. Among others, he served as his Fallston Maryland community's 10-kilometer race director for five years; as head coach of a U.S. Army Youth Activity young girls' softball team for six years; as president of an Army Youth Activity competitive swimming team for five years; as president of the Fallston Maryland JAYCEES for three years; and as a leader in the re-settlement of several Vietnamese refugee families in Maryland. He enjoys organizing youth activities, jogging, reading, watching baseball, and studying American history. Dr. Krueger and his wife, Jessica Ann (nee Prendergast) Krueger have three children and two grandchildren. The Kruegers have lived in Alexandria, Virginia for almost 25 years.
