NEW BERN, NC, May 08, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Andrea Tolmich has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With nearly 50 years of professional experience, Ms. Tolmich has been a freelance musician since her official retirement in 2008. Prior to that, she served as an elementary and middle school orchestra teacher for the Walled Lake Consolidated Schools from 1972 to 2008, also serving as chair of the music department from 1974 to 1994. Earlier in her career, she was an elementary and junior high school orchestra teacher with Plainedge Public Schools from 1970 to 1972, and a general music and orchestra teacher with West Babylon Junior High School from 1969 to 1970.
Ms. Tolmich began her career as a student at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, obtaining a Bachelor of Music, with distinction, in 1969. She later studied at Queens College, City University of New York, where she earned a Master of Science in education in 1974. She also has a Master's Degree in the Art of Teaching from UC San Diego. Ms. Tolmich is certified in general education for K-6 in the state of Michigan, music for K-12 in the state of Michigan, and highly qualified instrumental music and orchestra in the states of Michigan and New York.
A respected leader in the field, Ms. Tolmich has been affiliated with numerous industry organizations. She is a member of the National Education Association, the Michigan Education Association, the Michigan String Teachers Association, the American Viola Society, the American String Teachers Association, and a member Emeritus of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association. In addition, she has been active with the Birmingham Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra as a violist, and in North Carolina the Craven Community Chorus, the New Bern Civic Strings Crystal Coast Musicians, Harmonium Players, and additional freelance opportunities, and she was a solo and ensemble adjudicator for the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Tolmich intends to continue playing music as long as she is physically able to do so, even into her 90s. She would also like to play more with the Wilmington Symphony, and is considering relocating to Florida for the musical opportunities there. In her free time, Ms. Tolmich enjoys reading, traveling, yoga and fitness classes.
