With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Myers has been in private practice at Stephen Hawley Myers, LLC, since 1997. Prior to founding his own firm, he was a partner with Roy Forrest, Lopresto, DeCourt & Myers and its predecessor firms from 1985 to 1997, an associate with Davidson Meaux Sonnier & McElligott from 1984 to 1985, and an attorney advisor to Judge Jules G. Körner of the United States Tax Court from 1982 to 1984. Earlier in his career, Mr. Myers served as an associate with Duncan Allen & Mitchell from 1980 to 1982 and as an attorney advisor to Judge Edward S. Smith of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit from 1979 to 1980.
Mr. Myers began his career as a student at Union College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science, with honors, in 1976. He continued his studies with Loyola University, where he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1979. Mr. Myers has since been admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and the state of Louisiana, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Districts of DC and Louisiana, the United States Tax Court, the United States Claims Court, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Federal and DC Circuits, the United States District Courts for the Western, Eastern and Middle Districts of Louisiana, and the United States Supreme Court.
A respected voice in the field, Mr. Myers has been affiliated with numerous organizations in his community. A member of the American Bar Association, he has also been active with the American Platform Association, the Lafayette Bar Association, the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association and Phi Delta Phi. In addition, he has been a member of the Louisiana State Police Commission, chair of the National Business Advisory Council, vice chair of the board of directors of the Louisiana Council for Fiscal Reform, and a trustee of the H&M Foundation. He has also served on the board of directors and as treasurer for the Acadiana Youth, Inc., and as a lecturer for continuing legal education at seminars on corporate, business and sales tax litigation.
Married to Laura Lee Fuller since 1989, Mr. Myers is the proud father of three children. In his free time, he enjoys writing, photography, skeet shooting, sports clay shooting and hunting. Notably, he has been selected for inclusion in several editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
