Mr. Thompson is an active practicing attorney who ran a very successful law firm as the president of Thompson, Krilich, LaPorte, West & Lockner in Tacoma, WA, for 38 years, followed by a solo practice in Gig Harbor since 2000. First established in 1961, and now known as Krilich, LaPorte, West & Lockner, the firm continues to provide services to the surrounding communities by focusing their practice on personal injury, construction injuries, employment law, civil rights and automobile accidents. Prior to forming his practice, Mr. Thompson spent one year as the assistant city attorney for the City of Tacoma between 1960 and 1961.
During his many years representing clients, Mr. Thompson also served as a judge pro tempore for the municipal court for the City of Tacoma in Pierce County District between 1972 and 2001 and the Pierce County Superior Court since 1972. Locally, he served on various committees, including on the Tacoma Committee of Future Development, the Tacoma Pierce County Cancer Society and the Pierce County Economic Development Corporation. He is most proud of his service with his service club, Optimist International, where he went through the chairs, Club President, District Governor, International Vice-President, and International President in 1973-74; he continues to serve as a member or chair of many committees.
A longstanding member of numerous professional organizations throughout his tenure such as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the American Arbitration Association and the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association, Mr. Thompson has received multiple awards and recognitions for his work, including a Community Service Award by the Housing of Urban Development in 1974, a Distinguished Citizen Award by the Municipal League of Tacoma-Pierce County in 1985, was named Lawyer of the Year by the Pierce County Legal Secretaries Association in 1992, as well as a Civility Award by the Honorable Robert Bryan Inns of Court in 2018 and a 50-Year Award by the Bar Association in 2008. Furthermore, Mr. Thompson has been showcased in dozens of editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.
Growing up in the small town of Port Orchard near Tacoma with his twin brother Donald, Mr. Thompson and he both pursued law degrees. His brother later became a successful judge. Mr. Thompson spent two years in the active service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, followed by 28 years in the U.S. Army Reserve ending as Commandant of the 6236 U.S. Army Reserve School and retiring as a colonel. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Washington, and in 1959, was admitted to the Washington Bar Association. Married to Marilyn Christine Woods, he has six children, 15 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
