With more than 60 years of industry experience to his credit, Dr. Greenfield has worked as a radiologist since 1960, and has been recognized as a professor emeritus by the University of South Florida. Previously, he served as an attending radiologist with the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute from 1989 to 2006, a professor of radiology at the University of South Florida from 1989 to 2003, the vice chairman for the department of radiology in the Chicago Medical School from 1988 to 1989, professor of radiology in the Chicago Medical School from 1987 to 1989, and president of the medical staff at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1983 to 1985. Prior to these appointments, Dr. Greenfield was the professor of diagnostic radiology at Rush Medical College for Rush University from 1976 to 1989, professor and chairman of the department of radiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1969 to 1974, and professor and chairman for the department of radiology in the Chicago Medical School from 1969 to 1974.
Additionally, Dr. Greenfield held the roles of associate professor of radiology at the University of Illinois from 1966 to 1969 and professor of radiology at the Cook County Graduate School of Medicine. He also contributed to the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County as assistant director from 1966 to 1969 and as a radiologist from 1961 to 1966. Dr. Greenfield began his career as an intern at Bridgeport Hospital from 1956 to 1957 and as a resident of radiology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center from 1957 to 1960.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Greenfield pursued an education at New York University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1949. He followed this accomplishment by enlisting in the United States Army, serving until his honorable discharge in 1951. He concluded his studies at Utrecht University in 1956, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine. A diplomate of the American Board of Radiology in 1961 and the American Board of Nuclear Medicine in 1972, Dr. Greenfield was licensed to practice medicine in Illinois in 1957, Florida in 1961, New Jersey in 1961, Wisconsin in 1961, and California in 1984.
Beyond his efforts within the field, Dr. Greenfield has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He currently works with the City of Treasure Island, FL, having been on the Future of Treasure Island Committee since 2016 and on the Beach Preservation Committee since 1998. From 1986 to 1989, he held the position of trustee for the Mount Sinai Medical Center. Furthermore, Dr. Greenfield has had a prolific career as an artist, with his fine art, photography, and digital art exhibited for years in such venues as the Treasure Island Community Center, the Morean Arts Center, the Palm Beach Photographic Centre, the Suntan Art Center and the St. Pete Beach Community Center.
Dr. Greenfield has found much success with his written works as well, having been published as a senior author on "Imaging of Arthritis" in 2001, "Computers in Radiology" in 1985, "A Manual of Radiographic Positioning" in 1973, and as photographer in "50th Anniversary of Treasure Island" in 2005. A consulting editor for the Chicago Medical School Quarterly, he has served on the editorial boards for the Mount Sinai Journal of Medicine, the Quarterly Bulletin and Osteológiai Közlemények. Dr. Greenfield has also contributed articles to many professional journals, such as Cancer Control: The Journal of Moffitt Cancer Center, Orthopedic Clinics of North America, Skeletal Radiology, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and the American Journal of Roentgenology, among others.
In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Greenfield remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has been a member of the American Medical Association, the Chicago Medical Society, the Chicago Radiological Society, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Radiological Society of North America. Likewise, he has maintained involvement with the Institute of Medicine of Chicago, the International Skeletal Society, and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society. A guest examiner and surveyor of residency programs for the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Greenfield is also an active member in the Art Guild of Treasure Island.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Greenfield has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. A fellow of the American College of Radiology, he was featured in the first edition of "How to Find the Best Doctors: Florida" by Castle-Connolly in 2000, as well as the 2018 edition of Marquis Magazine. Recognized as a Distinguished Worldwide Humanitarian in 2018, he was honored with special designations 20 times by the Art Guild of Treasure Island between 2003 and 2018, 10 times by the Suntan Art Center between 2007 and 2017, and six times by the American Physicians Art Association from 1994 to 2008. Recognized as the Featured Artist of the Month by the Suntan Art Center in 2007 and as Best of Show by the American Physicians Art Association in 2005, he was presented with the Editors Choice Award from the International Library of Photography in 1998 and 1999. Dr. Greenfield was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
