With 15 years of industry experience, Dr. Cho has worked as a core developer and project leader for fingerprint sensor process development at Samsung Electronics since 2016. Prior to this appointment, he served Samsung as a change agent for organizational culture improvement from 2016 to 2017, core developer and focus team leader for TSP transparent conductive electrode development from 2014 to 2015, project leader for in-cell CSR development, WGP NIL process development, and photonic crystal color filter development between 2008 and 2014, and core developer for near residual NIL process/system development for patterned media in 2006. He is a former junior board member for employee representation in organizational culture improvement from 2005 to 2006, and he held the position of core developer for Blu-ray microlens and system development from 2002 to 2004. He also held a temporary post as a technical advisor for patterned media joint development with Fuji Electric Co., Ltd in 2007.
Dr. Cho began his career at Hanyang University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1997, going on to earn a Master of Science in precision mechanical engineering in 1999 and a PhD in precision mechanical engineering in 2000. He returned to his studies in 2007 at Yonsei University, completing the graduate program and garnering a PhD in information storage engineering in 2011. He is a member of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Korean Society for Noise and Vibration Engineering, the Society of Information Storage Systems, the Optical Society of Korea, and the Optical Society of America. Additionally, he was a visiting researcher for the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering in 2003, Stanford University in 2006, and the University of Michigan from 2014 to 2015.
In recognition for his contributions, Dr. Cho has accrued numerous accolades and honors throughout his career. In 2003, his work was recognized by the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology as the Best Practice of the 6 Sigma Project. In 2010, he was presented with the Breakthrough Award in Innovation of the Field by Samsung Electronics, and he was honored with a CEO Citation for Long-term Employed Persons by Samsung in 2011. Most recently, Dr. Cho earned the Role Model Award from Samsung Electronics in 2014.
Drawn to his present employer by advisors and the special opportunities that the company provided for him personally, Dr. Cho is proud that he was able to complete his PhD while tending to his professional responsibilities. Likewise, he cites his multiple notable achievements, including developments in high-NA hybrids lens array, super-slim Blu-ray integrated optical pick-ups, OLED TV-using microlens array, 33 conference papers, and hundreds of patents to his credit. Looking toward the future, Dr. Cho hopes to continue cementing his career and legacy at Samsung Electronics.
