With more than 30 years of professional experience, Ms. Malinowski served as a professor of Developmental Studies at Finger Lakes Community College since 1996, and the chair of the Development Studies Department since 1991. She joined the school in 1987 as an assistant professor, becoming an associate professor in 1992. In addition to her primary roles, Ms. Malinowski was a member of the National Association of Developmental Education and the International Reading Association editorial board. Ms. Malinowski was granted Professor Emeritus rank in 2018.
Ms. Malinowski began her career as a student at the State University of New York at Fredonia, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. She went on to attend Bowling Green State University, where she completed a Master of Education in 1972. A respected voice in the field, she has contributed numerous articles to professional journals pertaining to her areas of expertise. She was editor of Research and Teaching in Development Education from 1990 to 2006. Ms. Malinowski is recognized as a former vice president and secretary with the New York College Learning Skills Association. She was involved with the New York State English Council, New York State Reading Association, NCTE and Phi Delta Kappa International.
In recognition of her contributions to the educational community, Ms. Malinowski was selected to receive the Excellence in Faculty Service Award from the Chancellor's Office, the New York State Education Department in 2006. She was also selected to receive the Pelican Award from Boy Scouts of America in 2002, a Distinguished Service Award from Finger Lakes Community College in 2000, an Outstanding Publication Award from NADE in 1995, and an Outstanding Professional Service Award from the New York College Learning Skills Association in 1995. In addition, she won an Excellence in Professional Service Award from the Chancellor's Office, the New York State Education Department in 1993 and Distinguished Service Award from Finger Lakes Community College in 1988, and she was named an Athena nominee in 2002. Ms. Malinowski has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who in the World.
