Initially developing an interest in law while watching Perry Mason as a child, Ms. Johns received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Occidental College in 1990. She then attended the Golden Gate University School of Law, completing a JD in 1993. During this time, Ms. Johns received academic honors and was selected to receive the Academic Student Achievement Award in Health Law. She has been admitted to practice in California, as well as before the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and United States District Court for the Central District of California. She is currently in the process of being admitted to practice law in other states throughout the United States.
Early in her career, Ms. Johns worked as an associate trial attorney for reputable trial practices in California, where she handled civil and family law trials and hearings and was credited with a 100 percent success rate in criminal proceedings. Since 2005, Ms. Johns has maintained a private legal practice as a trial attorney and collaborates with firms based in Los Angeles and the Bay Area to litigate cases through trial. Through her work, she fulfills various client contracts in California, in addition to overseeing, supervising and training teams of lawyers and related support staff. A respected voice in the legal community, Ms. Johns recently joined the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund and serves as a pro bono attorney for equal work for equal pay. She has served as a pro bono attorney with the American Bar Association since 2004. In this position, she works with the organization's military outreach and military pro bono attorney programs to provide legal services to military personnel. Ms. Johns has also served as a pro bono attorney and volunteer for local, statewide and national domestic violence organizations. For more than 20 years, she has been recognized as a committee chair and student mentor with Occidental College.
Outside of her legal career, Ms. Johns has travelled extensively throughout Europe and is fluent in European Spanish. She is also trained in German and French. Ms. Johns has competed as a collegiate, semi-professional and professional soccer player. She is a licensed competitive soccer coach, and coaches boys and girls who play recreational and competitive soccer.
