Dr. Kroumpouzos has held the roles of Professor of Dermatology, Collaborator at Jundiaí Medical School since 2016, Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University since 2012, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University from 2006 to 2012. Previously, Dr. Kroumpouzos was an Instructor in Dermatology at Harvard Medical School from 2000 to 2001.
With more than 25 years of industry experience to his credit, Dr. Kroumpouzos has worked on the associate faculty at Rhode Island Hospital since 2017, as Attending Dermatologist for the Providence VA Medical Center since 2017, and on the associate faculty for South Shore Hospital since 2003. Additionally, he was on the clinical faculty for Rhode Island Hospital from 2005 to 2017 and on the courtesy faculty at Worcester Medical Center from 2002 to 2005. Prior to these appointments, he held the positions of Attending Dermatologist at the Brockton campus of VA Boston Healthcare System in 2001, Attending Dermatologist for Brigham and Women's Hospital from 2000 to 2001, resident of the Joint Dermatology Program at Boston and Tufts Universities from 1997 to 2000, and as an intern for the Department of Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel from 1996 to 1997.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Kroumpouzos pursued an education at the Ionideios Pilot High School of Piraeus, earning a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, in 1983. He continued his studies with a Doctor of Medicine at the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1989. He concluded his academic efforts at the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1992, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy. Following these accomplishments and Dermatology Residency, Dr. Kroumpouzos was certified by the European Board of Dermatology in 1999 and the American Board of Dermatology in 2001.
Dr. Kroumpouzos has found much success with his creative works as well, having contributed to the editorial boards of Open Dermatology Journal since 2017, Clinics in Dermatology since 2016, Journal of Procedural Dermatology since 2015, and the Journal of Clinical and Investigative Dermatology since 2014. He has also been appointed to the editorial boards of Journal of Cosmetics, Dermatological Sciences and Applications since 2011, Journal of Clinical and Experimental Dermatology Research since 2010, Giornale Italiano di Dermatologia e Venereologia in 2018 (Guest Editor), and ISRN Dermatology from 2010 to 2014. Furthermore, Dr. Kroumpouzos has authored more than 100 published articles in esteemed peer-reviewed journals, 27 chapters to books, and 4 full books in his areas of expertise that include gynecologic dermatology, disorders of pigmentation, psychocutaneous diseases, and procedural dermatology.
Additionally, Dr. Kroumpouzos remains affiliated with various organizations in medicine and dermatology. He has been associated with the Hellenic Medical Society, the Medical Society of Berlin, the International Union against Cancer and the Panamerican Society for Pigment Cell Research. Dr. Kroumpouzos has further held membership with the Society of Investigative Dermatology, the Medical Society of Massachusetts, the American Medical Association and the Dermatological Society of Athens.
Likewise, Dr. Kroumpouzos has been involved with the Hellenic Medical & Dental Society of New England, American Academy of Dermatology, American Board of Dermatology and the New England Dermatological Society. He has also served the Leaders Society of Dermatology Foundation, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery. He has been active within the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the International Association of Dermatologists, the Massachusetts Academy of Dermatology and the Harvard Dermatology House Officers' Club. Dr. Kroumpouzos is a member of the Rhode Island Dermatologic Society, International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology, Women's Dermatologic Society, and the International Society of Dermatology.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Kroumpouzos has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He has been recognized as a Yamagiwa-Yoshida International Cancer Fellow of the Department of Dermatology at New York University in 1995 and 1996, a research fellow at the National Cancer Institute of National Institutes of Health from 1993 to 1994, and a fellow of the German Foundation of Academic Exchanges (DAAD) and the Free University of Berlin from 1992 to 1993. Dr. Kroumpouzos has been further honored as Plenary Speaker at the 3rd International Conference on Clinical and Experimental Dermatology in 2013, an Honorable Guest of the International Conference and Exhibition on Clinical Research in 2011, and among the Leading Physicians of the World with the International Association of Dermatologists in 2010.
Dr. Kroumpouzos has been presented with the Clinical Award from the New England Dermatological Society in 1997 and 1998, an ICRETT Award for the International Union Against Cancer with the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health in 1993 and 1994, a Maria Sonnenfeld Foundation Promotion Stipend from the Free University of Berlin from 1992 to 1993, and a Research Award from the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology in 1991. Most recently, he received several decorations for his contributions to medical education from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, including the Teacher of the Year Award in 2007, the Dean's Excellence in Teaching Award in 2011, and a Teaching Recognition Certificate in 2012. Dr. Kroumpouzos was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
