With nearly 30 years of research and education experience to his credit, Dr. Shin currently works for Korea Maritime and Ocean University, where he has held the positions of lecturer, assistant professor, associate professor, and professor in the shipping management department since 1989. Additionally, he has served as the Head of the Industry-University Cooperation Project for Shipping and Port Logistics with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries since 2015 and the Dean of the Department of International Customs in the Graduate School of Korea Maritime and Ocean University from 2016 to 2018. During this time, Dr. Shin was the Head of the University for Creative Korea Project of Human Resource Development for High Value Added in Shipping and Port Logistics for the Ministry of Education from 2014 to 2016 and the Director of the Human Resource Development Center at Korea Maritime and Ocean University from 2012 to 2014. Currently, he is Dean of the College of International Studies and Graduate School of Global Logistics of Korea Maritime and Ocean University.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Shin pursued an education at Korea Maritime and Ocean University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in shipping management in 1986. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Business Administration in shipping management at the Graduate School of Korea Maritime and Ocean University in 1988. He concluded his studies at Kyungsung University in 1995, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in business administration with a focus on human resource management and organizational behavior. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Shin was certified as a management consultant (CMC) by the Korean Ministry of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise and Startups and as an information systems auditor (CISA) by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association in 2002.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Shin has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He has contributed to the Conciliation Committee of the National Labor Relations Commission since 2007, the Administration Research Committee of Busan Metropolitan City since 2012, the Subsidy Committee of Busan Metropolitan City since 2013, and the Evaluation Committee of the Investment Agency of Busan Metropolitan City since 2017. Likewise, he was active on the CEO Evaluation Committee of Public Enterprise of Busan Metropolitan City from 2010 to 2013. From 1983 to 1984, he completed service as a soldier in the Republic of Korea Army. Dr. Shin found success with his written works as well, having published 70 treatises in Korean Citation Index journals, 20 articles in esteemed scientific journals and 40 research reports.
In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Shin remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. Since 1994, he has been a permanent member of the Korean Academic Society of Business Administration, the Korean Academic Association of Business Administration, the Korean Industrial Economic Association and the Korea Port Economic Association.
Furthermore, he has also been associated as a permanent member of the Korean Academy of Management, the Korean Academy of Human Resource Management, the Korea Academy of International Commerce and the Korean Institute of Navigation and Port Research. He has held the roles of Vice Chairman of the Korean Academic Association of Business Administration since 2009, Chairman of the Academic Committee and Research Board of Korean Institute of Navigation and Port Research since 2005, and Executive Director of Korean Academy of Human Resource Management since 2003. Dr. Shin maintained involvement as both Finance Director and Editor of Korean Institute of Navigation and Port Research since 2014 and a Busan Yeongdo Rotary Club member for District 3661 of Rotary International since 2007.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Shin has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. In 2004, he was presented with an Accounting Practice Research Award by the Korean Accounting Association. Dr. Shin obtained the Grand Award of Academic Excellence from the Korea Maritime and Ocean University in 2012.
