Founder and president of DL Azarnoff Associates in South San Francisco, CA, Dr. Azarnoff established his pharmaceutical consulting company in Evanston, IL, in 1987. His depth of expertise includes many years in academia where he taught at such universities as the University of Kansas (KU) Medical School, which spanned 58 years, as well as St. Louis University Medical School, Northwestern University Medical School and Stanford University Medical School. During his years at KU, he served as the director of the clinical pharmacology study unit and as director of the clinical pharmacology-toxicology unit. In the field, Dr. Azarnoff was the commissioner of the National Commission on Orphan Diseases, chaired and served on the board of directors of Alpha RX Corporation and was the senior vice president of clinical regulatory affairs and clinical development and pharmacology with Congentus Pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Azarnoff first studied at Rutgers University, The State University of New Jersey, earning his Bachelor of Science in 1947 and Master of Science in 1948. He then completed a research fellowship at the KU Medical School, Doctor of Medicine at the University of Kansas and his internship and residency at KU Medical School. Prior to receiving his degrees, he spent one year in the U.S. Army.

A former CEO, chairman and member of the board of directors for Vitalsensor, Inc., and Cibus Pharmaceutical, Inc., Dr. Azarnoff also chaired and served on the board of Oread, Inc., chaired the committee on problems of drug safety for the National Research Council-The National Academies of Sciences, directed the second workshop on Principals Drug Evaluation in Man and consulted for numerous government agencies. A longtime member of multiple professional organizations and an elected fellow of the National Academy of Medicine, American College of Physicians, the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, among others, Dr. Azarnoff also served in various roles for a number of societies, including as chairman of the pharmaceutical division and as chair-elect of the pharmaceutical section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and on various committees for the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. Serving as an editorial board member for Clinical Drug Investigation since 1989, Dr. Azarnoff formerly served as a series editor for Monographs in Clinical Pharmacology, as editor of the Yearbook of Drug Therapy and Development of Drug Interactions, and on various editorial boards during his tenure.

The recipient of several awards and recognitions, Dr. Azarnoff was honored with a Nathanial T. Kwit Memorial Distinguished Service Award by the American College of Clinical Pharmacology in 2002, a Distinguished Medical Alumnus Award by the KU College of Health Science in 1995, and a Research Achievement Award in Clinical Sciences by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists in 1995. His accolades date back to 1953 when he first received a Ginsburg Award in Physical Diagnosis from KU Medical Center. Dr. Azarnoff was also a Fulbright Scholar in 1968, granted to study at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He has been cited in every edition of Who's Who in America since 1987, as well as close to 50 editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who in the World, among others. Married to his wife Joanne Stokes since 1951, Dr. Azarnoff has three children, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
