Matthew J. Trachtenberg Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Trachtenberg with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. With more than 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Trachtenberg is currently the Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of the National Orchestral Association, leading a classical music organization with a proud history dating from its founding in 1930. The Association was created to provide orchestral training to American musicians at a time when American orchestras were comprised almost entirely of European-trained musicians. Currently, the Association continues its work by providing financial and other support to a variety of American musical organizations.

Mr. Trachtenberg is a member of the Board of Directors of the Macula Foundation (dedicated to leading-edge research on diseases of the retina, including macular degeneration), where he serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee. In addition, he is a Director, Treasurer and Secretary of the Pat Palmer Foundation, an organization dedicated to the protection, preservation and health of parrots.

Prior to being named Chief Executive Officer of the National Orchestral Association, Mr. Trachtenberg had a long and distinguished career in banking, serving in a variety of capacities that enabled him to utilize both his financial and legal training. After graduating law school in 1977, Mr. Trachtenberg was recruited by the Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company to join its management training program, following which he served as a credit analyst and corporate banking representative. In 1982 he was elected a vice president and was asked to join the corporate office as an attorney. In 1987 he was promoted to the position of the Corporate Secretary for both Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company and its parent, Manufacturers Hanover Corporation. In addition to working with the Board, Mr. Trachtenberg was named agent and officer-in-charge of the Manufacturers Hanover Foundation.

Following the merger of Manufacturers Hanover and Chemical Banking Corporation in 1992, Mr. Trachtenberg became Deputy Corporate Secretary of the combined entity, a position he held until 1998. In 1999, he joined PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. as a vice president and senior private banker, followed by a tenure at Fleet Bank, serving in the same capacities from 2000 to 2002. Mr. Trachtenberg was recruited by First Republic Bank in 2002 to serve as a managing director, a position he held until 2004 when he joined U.S. Trust as a senior vice president. Mr. Trachtenberg retired from banking in 2006.

Throughout his career, Mr. Trachtenberg has assumed leadership roles for many nonprofit organizations. He was a trustee of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary for nearly 20 years, serving as its Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance Committee. Additionally, he was trustee of Continuum Health Partners, an organization consisting of four major New York City hospitals. In recognition of his service, in 1998 Mr. Trachtenberg was a recipient of the Distinguished Hospital Trustee Award from the United Hospital Fund of New York.

Mr. Trachtenberg also served as a director of the Joffrey Ballet, as well as a member of the Education Advisory Committee for the Lighthouse for the Blind, and is a former President of the USO of Metropolitan New York.

Mr. Trachtenberg received his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude from New York University in 1974 where he was elected a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Sigma Alpha honorary societies, and was a recipient of New York University's Founders Day Award. Mr. Trachtenberg went on to study at Brooklyn Law School, completing a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1977, and earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Fordham University in 1982. Mr. Trachtenberg is a member of the New York Bar. In his free time, he enjoys classical music, classic cinema, painting and writing.
