With more than 40 years of maritime technology experience, Rear Admiral Byus founded Future Force LLC, a DC-based consulting company, in March 2018. His areas of expertise range from service and industry requirements development, program resourcing, and financial management to naval technology and warfighter operations. Based on his wide breadth of knowledge and experience, he is working to assist the U.S. Navy and industry, and assure U.S. maritime excellence into the future.
Retiring from the U.S. Navy in 2007, Rear Admiral Byus lent his knowledge to Battelle first as Vice President of the Navy and Special Operations Market Sector, then as General Manager of the Maritime Systems Business Line, and finally as General Manager for Battelle's consolidated Mission and Defense Technologies Business Unit. He has served on the board of directors of Bluefin Robotics and as Chairman of the Board of SeeByte, Ltd. He has been serving as a board member of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets since 2013.
Rear Admiral Byus was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering from the United States Naval Academy in 1976. He was awarded a Master of Engineering Management from The George Washington University in 1993. He has completed other post-graduate education courses and programs in national security and financial management from Syracuse University, University of California-Berkeley, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Chicago. To remain abreast of changes in the maritime technology field, he maintains active affiliation with the U.S. Naval Submarine League and the American Society of Naval Engineers.
Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his accomplishments with awards from Battelle for 10 years of service and a Distinguished Service Medal from the U.S. Navy. Looking toward the future, Rear Admiral Byus intends to pursue the second 25-year plan that he put together with his wife, Kathryn; serve his church where he is a Ruling Elder and Commissioner Elder, and continue to advise the maritime technology industry and the U.S. Navy. Fred and Kathy also enjoy spending as much time as possible with their four grown children and nine grandchildren.
