A retired civil engineer and consultant of nearly 40 years, Mr. Munoz enjoyed the many opportunities throughout the Chicago area as well as in Havana, Cuba. Originally founding Muñoz Bermudo-Construcciones in his home country in 1954, he upheld his business for seven years before immigrating to the United States. Going on to lead a very successful career in the field, he spent several years as a designer for numerous different companies before accepting an opportunity with the Chicago Transit Authority in 1965. He then worked in a variety of capacities for the Department of Water and Sewers and the Department of Sewers in the City of Chicago, where he remained for the duration of his career. Retiring in 1993, he concluded his time served as the assistant chief engineer.
During his career, Mr. Munoz was a member of the central area subway system utilities committee for the City of Chicago for nearly 20 decades and was a member of the computer graphics committee from 1977 to 1978. A longstanding member of several professional organizations relative to his work, including the American Public Works Association, the Western Society of Engineers and the Chicago Architecture Foundation, he also spent a lot of his free time with societies dear to his heart. Mr. Munoz was a member of The Overture Society of the Lyric Opera and the Buckingham Society of The Art Institute of Chicago, as well as the Oak Brook Bath and Tennis Club, the Barrington Polo Club and The Oak Brook Polo Club.
First studying at the University of Havana, where Mr. Munoz earned a Master of Architecture in 1954, he continued his studies upon establishing himself in the United States, completing postgraduate coursework at City Colleges in Chicago and at the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Munoz passed on September 4, 2017.
