LULING, TX, June 19, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jane Matthews has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
For more than 50 years, Ms. Matthews has utilized her talents to connect with the world around her. Whether giving private lessons or teaching art to students in all grade levels, she has remained committed to using art to encourage expression and develop progressive thinking. Though retired from active duty in the field of education, she is an independent writing and editing professional with an impressive background.
Raised by a mother who won a silver medal from the Houston Federation of Advertising (and was also listed in Marquis Who's Who), Ms. Matthews grew up surrounded by creative people, which inspired her to begin a career in the arts. Since 1962, she has been a freelance writer and artist, providing her services in various communities while moving throughout the country with her husband, an Episcopal priest. She gained experience in the performing arts as a producer of the musical "Godspell" at the Texas Theatre, director of One Seguin Art, and an artist with the National Endowment of Arts, which sponsored a traveling art show throughout the U.S. to raise funds for homeless people in the cities in which it was performed.
Her 3-volume book, "The Ancestors of Jane Alice Rogers Matthews" was recently released on Amazon.com. Efited by Ky White, it includes graphic designs by Cindy White, his wife. The book traces the history of her family's descent from Charlemagne and includes photographs and papers she discovered in courthouses and museums as well as land grants from her first Texas grandmother, Elizabeth Everett Munson. Ms. Matthews spent 35 years researching its contents and she is delighted to have it in readable form.
Ms. Matthews was also co-chair and a teacher board member of the Very Special Art Festival, relying on her fundraising expertise and teaching experience to help make the event a success for seven consecutive years. A prolific writer, she wrote articles on early Texas history to Texas State Stripes Magazine for 17 years, was a research writer for several genealogy magazines, and contributed articles to the New Texas Handbook for more than 12 years. From 2004 to 2012, she was a board member of the Luling Oil Museum's regional art show, which celebrates the town's rich cultural heritage.
The recipient of an Associate of Arts in graphic arts and communications from San Antonio College, Ms. Matthews has utilized both her formal education and real-world experience to make a difference in the lives of many. She has held membership in Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Victoria Genealogical County Society, and served on the board of directors for the Nave Museum from 1998 to 2000.
Ms. Matthews' mother, Alice B. Rogers, and Ms. Matthews' daughter, Diana Mathews Kipfer, have also been featured in several volumes of Marquis Who's Who.
