With 50 years of industry experience, Ms. Segel has worked as a lawyer in Beverly Hills, CA, since 1980 with clients coming from foreign countries, including Norway, France, Czechoslovakia, Canada, Egypt and Jordan, as well as here in the U.S. Prior to this appointment, she was taxation senior for Zebrak, Levine & Mepos CPAs in 1979, Fox, Westheimer & Co. CPA's in 1978, and Oppenheim Appel & Dixon CPAs in 1978. Previously, she was an intern for the Commissioner of the Department of Corporations in California in 1975 and a tax accountant for S.N. Chilkov & Co. CPAs from 1971 to 1974. Ms. Segel began her career as an administrative assistant for the American Banknote Corporation from 1969 to 1970 and Olds Brunel & Co. from 1968 to 1969.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Segel pursued an education at Boston University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Soviet and Eastern European Studies in 1968. She concluded her studies at the Southwestern School of Law in 1975, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Licensed to practice law by the State Bar of California in 1996, Ms. Segel was admitted to practice by United States Tax Court in 1996, the United States District Court for the Central District of California in 1996, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in 1997.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Segel has participated in numerous endeavors in her professional circles. She has served the Southwestern School of Law as a tax moot court judge in 1997 and a law student mentor from 1996 to 2007. From 2000 to 2014, she found success as a family law settlement officer for the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. Active in local traffic safety measures including the installation of speed bumps and permit parking, Ms. Segel was ambassador to People-to-People International as a high schooler when she traveled to Europe in 1963.
In addition to her primary responsibilities, Ms. Segel remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She was treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee of American Inns of Court - Los Angeles Chapter from 1998 to 2008. She has maintained involvement with the Women's Inner Circle of Achievement and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. In 2001, she organized and lead a memorial service at the historic First Congregational Church of Los Angeles for the California Boston University victims of the 9-11 attacks. She is also a member of the Beverly Hills Rose Society and the American Rose Society. In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Segel has been selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
Ms. Segel was born and raised in a small Ohio town into a large soda pop family, none of whom was involved in the legal or accounting professions. She has been a Lhasa Apso dog fancier and breeder since 1972 and enjoys ocean cruising. Her son Adam James (04/21/1975) is a successful investment banker in Boston.
