With 50 years of experience, Ms. Diasio served on the International Women's Day Celebration Planning Committee for the Birmingham International Center from 2009 to 2015. Prior to this appointment, she held the position of symposium coordinator for the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Alabama in 1988. From 1971 to 1972, she was a physical therapist for the Visiting Nurse Service of Rochester & Monroe County. She began her career as a physical therapist at the Yale New Haven Hospital from 1968 to 1971. Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Diasio pursued an education at University of Vienna, graduating with a Degree in Physical Therapy in 1967.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Diasio has participated in numerous endeavors in her professional circles. She has been a member of the Birmingham Committee on Foreign Relations since 1998. She has contributed to the Alabama Chapter of the Fulbright Association from 1999 to 2015. She is one of the three founders of United Nations Association's (UNA) Greater Birmingham Chapter, served as treasurer from 1982 to 2004, and as president from 2005 to 2015, and continues to serve on the chapter's board as immediate past president. She served as a Southeast Regional Representative of UNA's Chapters and Divisions steering committee from 2002 to 2007, and again from 2012 to 2014.
She actively participated in the Direct Service Network from 1989 to 2006. She chaired St. Peter's Catholic Church's Human Concerns Committee and organized the Angel Tree Project from 1988 to 2006.
She served as vice chair on the board of directors of the Be An Apostle of Christ foundation from 1988 to 2006, as well as secretary oo the board of directors of the World of Opportunity from 2002 to 2006; that included tutoring GED students.
Ms. Diasio served as active member on the board of directors of Greater Birmingham Ministries from 1989 to 2006, and chaired the organization's Direct Services Work Group from 1999 to 2002.
She served as a board member for Compeer from 1990 to 1999. Ms. Diasio was a student exchange program organizer between Vestavia Hills High School and Seebacher Gymnasium (Located in Graz, Austria) in 1990, 1991, and 1994, a volunteer German teacher for Vestavia Hills City Schools from 1985 to 1993, a volunteer for the Our Lady Queen of the Universe and Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Churches from 1988 to 1990, and on the board of directors for the Faculty Woman's Club of Virginia Commonwealth University from 1978 to 1984. She also held the positions of diocesan representative, recording secretary, and Saint Peter's representative for Alabama Arise from 1988 to 1994 in addition to being a member of the Peace and Justice Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham from 1989 to 1995, for which she served as chair from 1994 to 1995. She found success with Pemberton Elementary (Richmond, VA) as a volunteer German teacher from 1980 to 1984, member of the board of directors for the Parent-Teachers Association from 1979 to 1984, and president of the Parent-Teachers Association from 1982 to 1984. Ms. Diasio served with the Children's Service League of Birmingham, AL, as assistant treasurer from 1990 to 1991, treasurer from 1991 to 1992, president from 1992 to 1993, and both second vice president and recording secretary from 1998 to 1999.
In addition to her primary trade, Ms. Diasio remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She is a member of the American Association of University Women, the Fulbright Association, Vereinigung Ehemaliger Körnerschülerinnen and the Birmingham Committee on Foreign Relations. Similarly, Ms. Diasio has been associated with the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Alabama Arise and the American Civil Liberties Union.
On the board of directors for the Greater Birmingham Chapter of the League of Women Voters from 1999 to 2000, Ms. Diasio has maintained involvement with the Women's Ordination Conference, Call to Action, and Bread for the World since 1997. She has also been active with Pax Christi, Amnesty International, the National Conference for Community and Justice, and the Coalition Against Hate Crimes. Since 1997, Ms. Diasio has offered her time, efforts, and resources to the United Nations Association USA, the CALC, UNICEF and the Smithsonian Institute.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Diasio has accrued several accolades and honors throughout her impressive career. She was presented with a Resolution from the City of Birmingham, AL in 1999, a Citizen Diplomat of the Year Award from the Alabama International Service Council in 2013, the UNA USA's 70th Anniversary Legacy Award in 2013, and the Woman of the Year Award from the American Biographical Institute in 2012. She was recognized as Woman of the Year by the International Biographical Centre in 2004. Furthermore, Ms. Diasio was selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
