Professor and head of the Arabic language department at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), Dr. Yun teaches and conducts research in Arabic language and Arab culture and research in Arabic sociolinguistics. Teaching in this capacity for 25 years, she has also served as the head of the university's Society of Islamic Cultures Studies since 2016. Dr. Yun formerly taught at Seoul National University, Korea National Police University and Cho-Sun University. In May 2017, she also began researching the influence of the Arabic media on the development of the modern standard Arabic, sponsored by the Korea National Research Foundation.
During her tenure, Dr. Yun has published more than 35 articles across a variety of peer-reviewed journals as well as 30 books related to Arabic sociolinguistics and Arab culture. She currently serves on the executive board for the Korea Association of Arabic Language and Literature, the Korea Association of Middle-Eastern Studies, and the Korea Association of Islamic Studies. In addition, she is a longtime freelancer for the Arabic section of KBS World Radio in Seoul since 1990 and has been a member of Writing Arabic Textbooks for High School with the Ministry of Education since 2008.
Dr. Yun has held a BA in Arabic Language since 1988, an MA in Arabic Linguistics since 1990, and a PhD in Arabic Linguistics since 2002 from HUFS. Honored in 2015 and again in 2017 by HUFS with an Excellence in Research Award, the university also granted her with an Excellence in Teaching Award in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017. Furthermore, Dr. Yun was the recipient of an Honor Award for achievements in the teaching the Arabic language in Korea, which was awarded by the UAE–Korea Friendship Association.
