A talented anesthesiologist, Dr. Ivankovich is the former director of the Rush Pain Center and he was chair of anesthesiology at Rush University Medical Center for 26 years until his retirement in 2006. In addition, he taught in his field for 15 years, most recently as a faculty member in the school of medicine at Cook County Postgraduate School of Medicine form 1975 to 1985, and he taught anesthesiology at Rush Medical College, the University of Chicago, and Loyola University.
Continuing to serve as a trustee for Rush University Medical Center since 2005, Dr. Ivankovich was formerly active on the center's president medical staff, as director of the Women and Children's Hospital, associate vice president, director of surgical services, and chair of anesthesiology. The author of numerous books and book chapters on topics such as anesthesia, cancer therapy, liposomes, and thoracic surgery, he wrote "Nitroprusside and Other Short-Acting Hypotensive Agents" in 1978 and "Liposomes in Drug Delivery" in 1992, Dr. Ivankovich has also contributed multiple articles and abstracts to professional journals.
Born in 1939 in Debeljaca, Yugoslavia, Dr. Ivankovich earned an MD at the University of Zagreb in 1963, followed by residency work in internal medicine at the County Hospital of Nurnberg, Federal Republic of Germany, before immigrating to the U.S. two years later. Becoming a licensed physician in the State of Illinois and a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, he also completed a rotating internship at Edgewater Hospital in Chicago in 1966 and a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Chicago Hospitals from 1967 to 1968.
Dr. Ivankovich is an elected fellow of the American College of Anesthesiologists and American College of Chest Physicians, and a longtime member of the American Medical Association, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the International Anesthesia Research Society, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Married to Dr. Olga Ivankovich, Dr. Ivankovich has been highlighted in nearly 30 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World.
