Mr. Cordell has been a dedicated musician and music educator for more than four decades. Serving in his field with passion and commitment, Mr. Cordell comes from a family of musicians. His parents and siblings sang and played instruments, so his professional pursuit of music was a natural progression from a young age. As a qualified professional, Mr. Cordell holds two Masters of Music, one in composition and one in piano performance and pedagogy, as well as a Bachelor of Music in piano performance. He is also a certified permanent professional, certified national music teacher and a composer of various solo and ensembles pieces featuring multiple instruments such as the piano, flute, violin, trumpet and clarinet.
Currently, Mr. Cordell serves as a piano, organ, music theory and composition instructor at Music and Arts in Worthington, OH. Previously, he has held positions as a music instructor, lecturer, accompanist, and as an orchestral pianist at Capital University, The Ohio State University, Ohio University and Whittenberg University. In addition, he has done work as a freelance musician, as a composer/pianist with BalletMet Columbus, Ohio, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Gallery Players Theatre, Actors Summer Theatre, Ohio Valley Summer Theater and both Ohio University School of Dance and The Ohio State University School of Dance. He performed as a keyboardist and assistant conductor for several Broadway musicals and Opera theatre productions throughout central Ohio also. Mr. Cordell works as a keyboardist at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Westerville, OH, and has performed at multiple churches and universities in and around central Ohio.
As a testament to his musical talent, Mr. Cordell was a recipient of multiple scholarships, grants and awards from Ohio University and Wittenberg University. Professionally, he maintains affiliation with organizations such as the Midwestern Historical Keyboard Society of North America, the National Federation of Music Clubs, and the Music Teachers National Association. Philip also continues work as a booking agent, coach for new agents, and maintained multiple positions as a typist, computer operator and secretary for multiple business and banking offices in central Ohio.
