With more than 35 years of industry experience, Ms. Piskoti has been retired since 2010, having served as a teacher in the Sacramento City Unified School District from 1973 to 2010. During this time, she held the position of staff facilitator for the Sacramento Art Education Consortium from 2002 to 2005. Since her retirement, Ms. Piskoti held the position of volunteer for Crocker Art Museum from 2013 to 2014.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Piskoti pursued an education at California State University, Stanislaus, earning a Bachelor of Arts in fine art in 1971. Following this accomplishment, she earned credentials for teaching in the State of California. Ms. Piskoti has explored artistic endeavors as well, having consistently painted, drawn, and knitted in her free time.
In addition to her primary trade, Ms. Piskoti remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. Since 2002, she has contributed to the teaching advisory board for the Crocker Art Museum. Likewise, she maintained involvement with the California Art Education Association as chair of volunteers in 2001. Furthermore, Ms. Piskoti was a member of the National Art Education Association.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Piskoti has accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. She has been presented with many honors from the California Art Education Association, including the Award of Merit in 2001, the Ruth Jansen Award for Distinguished Educator of the Year in 2004, a Youth Art Month Award for the Northern Area from 2004 to 2006, and a Certificate of Appreciation in 2006. In 1989, she garnered the Honorary Service Award from the Parent Teacher Association and John F. Kennedy High School. Ms. Piskoti was additionally selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
Attributing her success to her experiences with her parents, her husband artist Jim Piskoti, and her mentor, painter Robert Colescott, Ms. Piskoti became involved in art education because of her affinity for children, as she believed she could help them relax and learn a skill at the same time. The highlight of her career has been seeing the success of her students, some of whom have become professional computer designers, animators, and clothing designers as well as good human beings. Looking towards the future, Ms. Piskoti hopes to continue enjoying her retirement by living life to the fullest, specifically in traveling and meeting people.
