Retiring as a special education diagnostician and art teacher in 2005, Ms. Dyer-Raffler taught in the field for 35 wonderful years in the Tucson Unified School District. Hired in 1970, she is certified in special education, learning disabilities and art education. In 1969, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ms. Dyer-Raffler would go on to earn a Master of Education in secondary education in 1974 and a Master of Education in special education in 1976 at the University of Arizona.
Inspired to pursue a career in education by her father who was also a school teacher, Ms. Dyer-Raffler reflects back on her career with admiration. Notably, she has maintained membership with the Arizona Education Association as well as the Cub Scouts of America, for which she served as den mother from 1968 to 1969. The recipient of grant by the Tucson Unified School District in 1977, Ms. Dyer-Raffler has been included in approximately 40 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in the World.
Enjoying painting, weightlifting, skiing, tennis and running in retirement, Ms. Dyer-Raffler is a former competitive tennis player of 10 years where she focused on singles and mixed doubles and was a member of a high-ranking girls team. Marrying her second husband John William Raffler Sr. in 1993, who has since passed away, Ms. Dyer-Raffler is the proud mother of one son.
